New era in freeskiing

I just finished watching refresh and I noticed something. No doubt refresh and edias are some of the best skill, editing, and locations to ever grace our TVs, but nothing really blew my mind in terms of tricks. All of the tricks were insane and were dripping with flawless steeze, but it's really hard for videos now adays to shock me. I think it's because will all of the video blogs, film crew updates and edits, we pretty much see or hear about shit as it happens. Every little contest and shoot is now filmed by like 10 athlete blogs. I think that skiing has entered a new era where progression is more gradual in the eye of the audience (NS member), rather than waiting all year to see a movie and have every shot be new. Anyway thoughts

end rant

Peace

first!!!! maybe it doesnt shock you because all you can do now is add another 180 degres or another flip. theres no room for anything really new. almost everything has been done

Durtschi's part in EDIAS blew my mind but wait until the piece of shit videoblog comes out. It will be face melting

ive kinda been thinking the same thing for a couple years now, but i guess i never put this much thought into it. but youre right, we see so much shit like 2 days after it's done via the internet, i guess that kinda saturates us...so when a banger trick gets stomped in a video that comes out in september everyone's either heard about it leading up to the movie or we've all seen edits where the trick has been in its early stages. either way it's more expected than shocking.
like the last movie that really made my head explode every time i watched it was Long Story Short. Corey Vanular destroying that flat-down box and then that high-angle shot of him doing a shifty cork 5 were like my favorite things ever...

ye its hard to say how much furtherthis sport can go in terms of progression. I mean surfing has been around for nearly 70 years and its still being pushed every day.

and your right about the whole "progression is happening at a steadier pace because of video blogs" and what not but I think that is a small step forward. It may kill print media all together and also videos may die out soon but there is still a lot that video blogs and shit like that cant cover. And also movies put together all that video blogs have to offer in one final awesome package.

yeah i agree the new videos arent special anymore its the same old stuff year after year and i already know about all the new stuff thanks to ns

idk henriks dub 12 saugsage blunt was pretty mindblowing to me. so was toms 270 to switch on the rail in his superunkown and henriks 270 onto the gnarly 5 kink. and dutschis seg in EDIAS was pretty nuts too

As long as people are skiing, there are going to be people who find new and creative things to do on their skis and therefor the sport will always progress. Just because there isn't a new "IDEA" or a new Tom Wallisch every year doesn't mean the sport has stopped moving forward.

I'm going to have to agree with this. For example the first time I saw a video of Jon Olsson, I was mind blown by where he was taking skiing. The same goes for Tom Wallisch's superunknown and what he was doing on rails/handrails at the time.

ive seen a tree tap backy before either by an asian skier or snowboarder cant remeber....

and travis rice in thats it thats all deystroyed any spinning off trees

dude the problem is that this is the "over information age" as i like to call it. theres way to much fucking coverage on everything and its all because of this bullshit media and technology getting so damn advance and whatnot.

yo im not saying nothing new can be done. i think there will be crazy shit that we cant evern comprehend now, that will be done in the years to come. i just meant that we will hear about trick "X" as it happens or see part of it in a blog.. so when it comes down to the segments at the end of the year they wont be as mind blowing

I was shocked several times. For example, 360 switch up pretzel outs on multiple kinked handrails should shock you every time you see it. I don't care what you say. So should switch landing doubles in the back country. And Tom's lip 2 in pretzel 6 both ways also blew my mind. Oh and LJ pretzel 4ed a fucking flip onto a box, how are you not impressed!?!? that is crazy progression!!

And premier parties! We need those, no online premier can ever take the place of actually being at a festival or premier. It that act of physically participating in an event like that, the noise, the smells, the booze. If you really think that the progression of this sport is about to hit a dead end you just need to open your mind. Or just spend some time away from NS, and let the world surprise you. Frankly saying progression is dead is a very arrogant thing to say, and those that have said it in the past have only been left in the dust.
