New Blackmagic 4k camera

Damn, this camera is pretty fly.
I like the new design, 100x better ergonomically. Actually looks like a camera.
2160p at 60fps... pretty sweet. This is a ground breaking feature, the og bmcc didnt even ahve 1080p60. Very appealing.

native ef mount, not too bad, crop will still be an issue, definitely spending some big money on a top end wide angle, but I still think a tokina 11-16 would work well.
CF cards... fuck yes. SSD was a good start, but man CF media is at least 3-4 times cheaper/gb (i think, at least 2x cheaper) and way more portable, etc. Dual slots with two 128gb cf cards would be a nice setup, I wonder how long that would last...
The next year of cameras are gonna be fucking nuts man, think about blackmagic dropping the first 4k model last year at NAB and the BMPCC? Its insane how much has changed since then.
Overall, this is a very appealing camera, I would almost recommend this over the fs700 (granted the media isnt too expensive and the image looks great). The fs700 does have the 120/240 and the larger sensor, but to get your fs700 to shoot 4k you have to spend another $5k on top of your $8k camera... I dunno, 2160p60 is a huge step.

I gotta say i was pretty pleasantly surprised with that. my only gripe from what ive seen is the size of the camera being 16 lbs. i mean don't get me wrong, its got some good things going for it and it is priced VERY competitively, but if it was like a few lbs lighter like a HPX or something then it would be a complete bombshell.
still a sick camera and it is clearly intended for bigger productions, but i was super stoked to see this and its price. black magic is like taking a ride on a roller coaster. they have some ups and downs, but you're always kind of excited to see what they have in store next

very cool stuff, but in the interest of saving money, waiting for 4k to catch on fully (lower monitor prices mostly), and the fact that my gh2 still makes a great image, I don't think I'll be looking to get one.
Now, if they made something like a mini fs100 with m43 mount and a full m43 sensor, 1080/60p or better, 2+k/30p or better that does raw/prores, I would be very interested. Mostly just something that can match well with the gopro hero 3+ black (or whatever its successor will be). If it has grad nd's, dual card slots and other goodies too, I would seriously consider selling a kidney for it. This with a glidecam/mic, and a gopro with a mini gyro/heli would be perfect for me.

I'm seriously considering it. Was waiting for more reviews after the botched HDMI on the gh2, and I don't need it quite yet. If it was 1 device and had nd's it would be very tempting. Either way, very cool stuff, might consider it down the road when I feel it is necessary/when the next one comes out and drops these into my price range

As great of a camera as it is, I think it's very impractical for most people.
At 16 pounds, it weighs 5x the amount of an fs700. A 120 gig cf card can only record 20 minutes of ProRes and 6 minutes of raw. Still don't know why they don't have a ProRes LT option to save space. You also can't format the cards in camera which is a bit of a hassle.
I think it will be an amazing tool for some people, but it just isn't practical for most video shoots

16 pounds? my arm already has a seizure with the fs700 on a glidecam theres no way I would buy a 16 pound camera.

One of my French cinema friends is already lamenting the idea of having that massive 1080P monitor on the side.
According to him it offers no flexibility, is in a shitty location, doesn't feed on it's on batteries and (probably) can't be removed when you want to add your own screen which in that field most people do anyway.

I got super excited when I read that it'd take CF cards too, then I realized that you'd need CF 2.0 cards to record to it's advertised potential... no bueno. ~$1200 for a 128gb card, which in an interview the blackmagic guy said would only hold about 6min of 4K RAW and 12min of ProResHQ... huge middle finger to the wallet
Super stoked on the camera otherwise. the potential to upgrade sensors in the future is a huge plus!

It is definitely a cool camera with a lot of power but I would still rather have the fs700. I say this for several reasons:
-It has the same sensor as the bmpc and still has banding and blackdot issues
- No built in NDs
- No High frame rate
- cf cards are cheaper than ssds but they are still expensive. Although It is better than having to use the ssds with the odyssey 7q on the fs (but using sds internally is very nice)
- 12 stops of dr (fs has 13-14)
-poor lowlight capability (based on previous bm cams)
and one of my biggest issues with it is that it weighs 15lbs!!! I mean come on…. This puts a glide cam/steadicam without a vest hugely out of the question. and although the ergonomics are better than previous bmccs i still have no idea how you would go handheld with it and it seems incredibly bulky and overall not built for an end user!
I know not all of these problems are huge but they are definitely things to consider, and I am definitely still trying to stay in love with my fs haha.
