ok so my old bike just officially died, and i'm looking into buying a new bike. i'm 5feet 11inches i wiegh 170. I hit mostly dirt jumps and bike long distances. i can spend up to 500 on a bike but no more. any impute would help

yeah but i cant really afford anything else

there not big jumps.just small dirt jumps and north shores.

save the 500 and maybe next year you'll have more for a good bike, especially if you're lucky enough to ride the north shore.

500 total i might be able to wait a little big longer and get more money

but i need it for this summer

yea you could assemble your own, it might be a little cheeper, but for 500 im not shure you can get a bike that will last you long

not true my rock hopper has held up fine but i also had to put new shit on it, like a new handle bar that i bent...and ive had to get new rims 3 times...and had to get maxxis wheels but other then that its good

well i have a norco kokanee that i got for around $650. its holdingup fine, i usually just ride xc trails and a tiny bit of downhill and dirtjumps.

specialized hardrock is the way to go for that money and discipline. WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T BUY A TREK! they suck and are way overpriced for what you get.

yeah dude, 500 is FINE. i bought a like new Mountain cycle rumble for 500, and its a DANK ass bike. any kinda just general purpose mt bike will be fine. the thing is, is DJ and riding long distances is a real clash and bike geometry. pretty much you simply cant have both in one bike, and it still be decent. either get something like an STP2 bad geometry for road riding, or a general purpose cheapo mt bike. i (and MANY like me) started on trek 820s. its a cheap, steel front susp. general use bike, and i put that fucker through hell. but something like that or buy used.

500 hundred will get you a canadian tire bike with glittery ribons hanging from the handles. you're gonna have to hike up your skirt and spend some big bucks. if not, bikin aint for you buddy.

if you get yourself in shape they arent bad for going long distances at all. i mean if you are doing the tour de france or some shit, but, i would ride my bike 2 work if i had a job and needed to ride to work. almosteveryday last summer i rode an hour to and from denver skatpark. noyt super far but still...

ok so i'm thinking about getting the specialized

P.1 Cr-Mo

yeah my friend has that bike, very light, and solid for djs. Not so great for roadd biking though

first of all......specialized is awesome and fuck anyone who disagrees, but i think a good choice for u would be the santa cruz jackal

ddue i have a p2 for park and street riding and some dirt jumping. holds up good. thats a good bike and i got it for 600 used tho but it also had a bunch of upgraded shit. get that with new stronger rims

that site is annoying for looking for bikes

but they do have a p2 for 600 and i havent looked for very long

get the p.1, hardrock, or devinci kicker or somethin like that and a bike from the garbage for distance....I have my dad's road bike from when he was 15...cuz spend all my money on 8-flat-8(dh/heavy freeride)but its worth it

im sure it was but it would have been easier on another bike. any ways. i'm certain that im getting a p1 or p2

^i dont think ull get the p.1 in that price range unles its used. my suggestion is walk near a crowd ofmexicans annd scream "hey...thats my bike!" and tehn you'll have a nice assortment to choose form
