Definitely agree with you op in that it has a different sort of ambiance than most other stuff out there.
I honestly know very little about making beats and that kind of thing, but to my ears you should probably cut the opening segment in half as it gets very redundant and uninteresting after the first 8 (ish) seconds of it.
Also maybe play with the way you use the subdivide each beat. Maybe start with larger rhythmic subdivisions towards the beginning and gradually subdivide into smaller and smaller values to create some sort of build up, or at least a sense of forward motion. Also, I don't know what the context of this track would be, so what I'm saying could just be complete bullshit.
But you're definitely on to something fresh here, and with a few tweaks it could be even better than it is now.
