NEW and IMPROVED +k critical my pic thread

Sorry to thread jack: but we need to make a photo crit cult with how

many have been popping up. And install a limit to how many you can

post.. Theres to many here for us to choose from to give you your best

critique. Everyone will just say something small about each photo

instead of giving you the depth you want.

Also what is the contests theme, that will help us.

The only photo that stands out for me is the first snowboarding shot, I

like his posture/shadow, just wish his arm wasn't lost in the trees (also not sure if I would of shot it vertical.) The rest didn't really do a whole lot for me, they were for the most part well shot, just nothing stand out.

Side note: watch it, it looks like many of shots are center heavy.. and clean your sensor ha, Im seeing the same dust marks on a few of the shots.

3 and 6 are my favorites though, but i think you messed with the colors in some of them too much (hdr i am guessing). 3 is pretty dope though. the first snowboarding one isnt bad either

..was going to be the one I would dislike the most. Don't submit that to any contest if you are trying to win.

Sorry to be harsh but its for your sake.

whoops, i meant the second snowboarding one is the one i like.

would you mind posting a non hdr version of 6? i think it is a pretty good compositionally and i am curious to see what it looks like w/o the editing. i have a feeling it may look good. also, if this is a multiple exposure shot, and parts are blown out/too dark in each of the exposures, maybe try to manually blend the exposure. PM me if you need help with it. it helps get good exposure in all parts of the photo while not making it look fake like some hdr photos.
also, i'll go a bit more into depth on why i like/dislike some of the others because i have some time on my hands and my first posts were short. sorry for the triple post.
1. i like it, but there isn't too much of a subject. it looks great… well exposed and such (but the middle of the outside of the building/window frame is a bit brighter then the rest and the bottom of the inside of the room is a bit dark). it is quite interesting to look at, and the room in back looks kind of cool too. my main gripe is that the bar across the window frame cuts off what looks like a hole in the back wall. maybe position the camera up a little more so you can see the whole hole.
2. dead center subject and distracting background (about midway up the frame on the right there is a fence or something). also a bit overexposed for my taste
3. really cool shot. i would crop some off of the bottom, but thats about it. i like how you found that one berry that is different. it contrasts with the other berries and the background. great shot. the highlighting on the red berry is cool too
4. i am not a fan of flower shots, but that is personal opinion. the bee adds to the photo though. i know it is sometimes tough to see when behind the camera, but if the bee was in front of a more green part of the background, it may pop more. not a bad shot though. i like the light a lot.
5. holy hdr!
6. see above. also, i just noticed, but did you vignette the top corners? if you did, is it needed?
7. dead center subject, and awkward body position. before when i said i like the first snowboarding shot, i meant the second one. my bad.
8. no real subject here
9. cool shot. i wish the left par of the frame didn't include a tree as it blocks part of the rider, but not bad
10. dead center subject. crop off of the left maybe. there is some blurred out foreground that i am not a fan of. and you cant see his face.
11. really sick. i would get closer though to fill the frame with what you want the picture to be of. i see what you were going for, but i think it would be more effective going closer. donna the resolution on these, but maybe a crop will suffice
12. the rider is moving out of the frame. not a big fan.

for sports (skiing/snowboarding included) try to always get the persons face in the picture. it adds a ton to the photo and makes it much more interesting. keep up the work though. i like some a lot, especially 3. and fyi, there are things that i like that i didnt post up, so dont take this is super harsh. i am trying to help you out so i put some time into telling you what i think you can do better. they are by no means bad. PM me if you have any quesitons, or just post up here so others can answer as well.

thanks. i shot some stuff dead center, because that can be sick with some shit.
youre right about the first snowboard one, it would be better horizontal.
my hdr's got out of hand... but i wanted to see what the program i use can do, so i foxed with the program. i agree though they look bad.
and i gave some +k to you

A photo related cult would be cool.

And dead center works well if you are going for symmetry, like in the one with the old car. I also would have shot horizontal, or at least made sure it wasn't a little crooked. I think it is. It has the potential to turn out cool though, go back to it and see what looks good.

yeah i like the cult idea. should i make it?
i shot the same angle on the car horizontal but i didnt like it as much. the whole car was on a slant because where i was cars park up on curbs.

I like 2 and 6. Blocking light with the subject off the photo is a good way to grab my attention. I'm usually not a fan of close ups of plants (IMO kindof played..) but 8 is pretty hot.
Sorry I don't know many photography terms so consider this an opinion of an average joe.
