New AIM virus

Hey, the first report of this virus was 5 days ago so for some people it may be old news.

There is a new virus going around AIM. It sends you a IM from a friends sn if they have it. It says, "Hey check out THIS!"

The word this is a link to multiple files that look like web sites, but in fact it is puting the virus on your own computer. It then sends it to many people on your own buddy list at random times. This one is trickier than normal AOL viruses because you dont expect it from people on your own buddy list.

Though AOL has apparently blocked the virus, I am still getting it sent to me by people during the day. If you HAVE this virus, go here:

download AIMFix, and run the program. It will easily delete the virus in a matter of seconds. If it does not run properly, or says error deleting Gabby-A virus, then restart your computer and run it again. It will delete it the second time.

o wait, if u click on the CLICK ON THIS that sum1 on aim sent u, it sends me to a website and it opened up a window that said would u like to save or open the file and i closed it, does that mean i have the virus or not?

use norton or go on ur computer and do restor to most recent good settings or sumthing like that

the same thing like that was happening on msn 2me

 
i just almost got that and i clicked on it but then remembered it was a virus and closed the box before it loaded

can just downloading and talking to friends give you virisus on your comp? my mom is parinoid that not having aol internet service and haveing aim will crash your computer

Anyway,

In response to a lot of questions:

Yes, you can get viruses from downloading and downloading files via AIM from your friends. Just don't download anything from your friends unless they clearly say, hey man! Im sending you a link! or something, make sure you know its them.

If you clicked on the THIS! thing, and a download window came up and you selected NOT to download, you should be alright...some people's computers regularly inform you when you are downloading a file, some do not. If you cancelled it, you are fine.

If nothing came up but a window that quickly went away, most likely you have it and should run the AIM Fix program.

For Trojans, they are typically just a spyware program that puts a lot of shit on your internet explorer window. Download something like Ad-Aware Personal SE...you can find it at download.com. That is a spyware scanner that works well and picks up most spyware.

Make sure when you go to http://www.jayloden.com/check.htm that you are NOT downloading AntiVir! AntiVir is just another free virus protection program.

As a recent update, the guy who runs AIM Fix says that he is still working out some things, because there are apparently numerous versions of the virus. If you got it before today, AIM Fix will probably still work. If it doesn't, try visiting the site again in a day or so...the guy updates it very frequently and AIM Fix should be able to take care of the problem.
