New 2024 4FRNT Graphics: Lookbook

I just wish you guys had a euro dealer as getting a pair to the UK is just too expensive with shipping and import duties……

wanted some for a long time

New Skis go live next week Tuesday, 8/8. We dropped the Lookbook early so you can check out new graphics before they go up. Check em' out, take the poll, and let us know what you think in the comments!

Really dislike these shitty one option polls marketing people and morons do. Makes me dislike any company a bit more when they do it.

The skis obviously look like typical boring 4FRNT garbage. The top sheets are the same imagines you would see in a 2012 iPhone "wallpapers" app cropped to fit their skis.

Still better than a lot of other companies tho just not good, not memorable, and very uninspired.

Yoo Lenny! Take it easy man. The reason we didn't include more "garbage" options in the poll is to discourage pointless comments like yours in the NS forum. If you have any suggestions on what style of graphics you'd want to ski we'd be fired up to hear them.

Thanks for the tip on 2012 iPhone "wallpapers" though, solid throwback Google search.

Launching with some Euro dealers (Blue Tomato) this winter! Not for a couple of months but it's coming. Keep yours eyes out for some updates come November.

Well that didn't work well because the only reason I bothered to comment was because of your cringey ass poll. If you want an echo chamber you should keep these polls in office, not on the internet where people are free to share their actual opinions.

I would suggest you take a bit of risk, look at what others are doing and do something different, and maybe y'all develop a bit of creativity along the way. Maybe if you see every other brand putting mountains on their skis don't just copy them. Try and make something memorable that you smile when you see.

If you think my initial comment is harsh you'd hate to see what I have to say about JSkis, y'all got off light. Sorry your thread wasn't only full of dick riders as you wish.

Yeah god forbid you take any criticism from one of the few places you can get actual feedback from your target audience.

Dont you want to stand out as a brand? At all? These are literally all generic looking skis that could have come out anytime between 2008-2018. (Maybe that was intentional?)

The Hojis just look like knockoff Pollards

The MSPs look like shitty RMUs

I like the Inthaynes but they're clearly just knockoff Hellbents

The Switch and the Devastators are just boring recycled graphics that we've seen 1000x

Like half of the skis posted in the ON3P worst-topsheet contest are more interesting and unique than these.

Again, what current ski graphics do you think are good?

Your top sheets are so consistently disgusting I often wonder if you do it on purpose to show just how bad of taste so many people have. It feels like you've found a niche of morons and now you're trying to see just how awful you can make them and still have them sell. Shits actually mind boggling. You literally put a dog shitting on a ski and people were like "I've gotta have it" probably sold out, and that's not even your worst one!

I will say though while you do constantly make the most awful, uncouth top sheets in the industry, they are memorable and every time I see them I laugh a bit because I know I'm looking at an idiot. It's also more fun to see your drops than 4FRNTs because it's like the ON3P bad top sheet contest but you aren't being ironic.

As a long time hater of j-skis graphics, I'll take an honest crack at things. Had like an hour long conversation with a buddy about this the other day that helped me narrow down my issues with them.

1. Re-used assets. In a couple of the top sheets something like the trees in the background are just...the same tree silhouette clip art looking thing copy and pasted 100 times. Ends up looking like a visual design 101 class midterm project

2. Poorly scaled assets-The new allplay with the fish...like half the fish is missing and it does not look intentional. It looks like the fish was too big and someone just said "fuck it, I'm to lazy to press ctrl+T" and sent it. The back is cut off, so is the mouth.

3. Trying too hard-Im probably just getting older and more cynical but the "hehe this meme was popular in 2018 and now it's on a ski hehe!!" just comes off as trying too hard to be unique and funny, but honestly these things probably sell like hotcakes with the reddit audience.

4. Design effort -I know that this is probably meant to be ironic on some top sheets, but it really does look like PS copy and paste in many of them. The space wolf one specifically. I look at Moment top sheets and go "Damn I could never make something that looks as cool as that." I look at a lot of J-skis graphics and go "give me 2 hours in PS and I'll make something just like it".

That's my unasked for 2 cents. At the end of the day myself and many others on here are probably not the target demographic.

There's a lot of cool top sheets this year that I don't hate. But even for many of those the conversation with my friend went like this- "oh those look pretty nice, but those are basically a 2019 surface top sheet. That one is cool too, but armada has one just like that 2 years ago. That's super sick but it's really just an Icelandic top sheet".

I ain't going to knock a successful business for how they operate, and I couldn't do any better designing graphics myself, but I will echo a previous sentiment in here that I would ride almost any of the ON3P worst top sheets winners over 90% of the J-skis lineup.

The inthayne graphics are sick. Def old-school vibes. The haters are funny because they're the reason salomon can sell a jizz colored qst with an impact front logo to thousands of gapers with earth tone crossover SUVs and wives with boyfriends.

It would honestly be so sick if it were this cheap and easy, but obviously as with most things the internal reality at a company is so far removed from public opinion you're basically living in different orbits. I won't bore anyone with the actual details of the process, but it's a full time job for one of the most senior art directors in snow sports, something we put a ton of thought and care into, and something that we know damn well 100% of skiers (especially NS cool guy skiers) won't always gravitate towards. All good! We're stoked on our product, our look, our brand and our position in skiing. Appreciate the support and opinions always

Get this thread back to talking 4FRNT though! I'm about to go meet those guys for some downhill laps at Bolton and don't wanna catch flak for hijacking their post - haha.

agreed, but salomon bases are fucking sick imo. Also why don’t more ski companies grab designs inspired by snowboards. Almost every board I see has a way cooler graphic than most skis.

No one criticizing these graphics is going to bat for Salomon graphics, you’re just inventing a guy and getting mad

I was doing some thinking about what topsheets I've really liked over the years and I noticed several things.

One: Great art is great art, I love it, and I Iove when whatever I'm looking at evokes some kind of feeling. This happens most when I'm able to see the main part of the art on the front of the ski when I look down.

Two: The graphic can't be too crowded to the point where it's essentially impossible to tell what you're looking at.

Three: Simple is often better, but only to a point. I too do not like the trend of all Salomon skis being this kind of monochromatic nothingness

Four: Having there be a connection in the art between the two skis that's more than just a picture that spans both of them is the best. My favorite topsheet of all time is honestly on a ski I've never ridden, the ON3P Cease and Desist

I'm sure when they're popping champagne at quarterly earnings meetings they're suuuuuuper embarrassed

You think J Skis and 4frnt 1) have quarterly earnings meetings and 2) are popping champagne at them?

Dude if I was described as "one of the most senior art directors in snow sports" and had this terrible of graphics, and lacked this much of a pulse on the culture ...yes I would feel slightly embarrassed.

yeah, you can be cool and successful too, and I won't lie, my hotshots were a pretty fun ski for hardpack days, not to mention the nocturnal schmies graphic was sick

We actually talk sales numbers weekly and can't drink during work hours anymore now that we own a bar ?

This is a classic scenario of your idea of ski culture (along with personal opinion on design) being super specific to your niche, whereas ski culture as a whole is super broad with a wide range of tastes. Goes back to my previous comment of actively NOT trying to please everyone, doing what we think is fun, and ultimately using customer feedback to inform our decision making.

If you wanted any more background on Fank, he was on TPM last year talking about his design career up to this point. Listen here!

And there's the krux of this issue... You listen to CUSTOMER feedback, but pretend to care about COMMUNITY feedback. I agree, you're never going to please everyone, especially not the picky losers like us on Newschoolers - and if you did, you probably wouldn't be around very long.

But if you're asking for feedback, you can't post shit like "The reason we didn't include more "garbage" options in the poll is to discourage pointless comments like yours in the NS forum".

Your brand is cringe and your graphics suck. It is what it is. If that's what you have to do to thrive as a business, that's fine, just stop expecting us to suck your dick because you're a JLev company.

Ah yes. Skis with unique profiles made in Canada from a company owned by a guy whose entire life and career revolved around free skiing is def comparable to Chinese manufactured dirt cheap conglomerate outwear sold to insta thots who drive barbie jeeps.

You can just say some of the top sheets are corny and leave it at that man no need to get ignorant. And if they're not your thing that's chill too just wait for the super duper core skis with smiley faces, cabbage, or super expensive plane red topsheets drop.

I'm not saying they're the same, but it is absolutely analogous. The corny/shitty/copied graphics they put out every year highlight the fact that, just like Montec, they care more about making money than listening to community feedback and making cool products.

INB4 you say "wOwoW a CoMpaNy tRyInG to mAkE money"

I'm not trying to say this is a bad way to run a company, just highlighting this dissonance and pointing out how hypocritical they are when they post threads like this.
