Negative attitudes in the skiing community

So over the past year or so i've noticed that about 70% of park skiers act like complete dousches to fellow skiers. Now by no means am i trying to preach to all of you to be nice to everyone, but at least be amicable to each other. I mean we all have at least one thing in common, a sport that we share a passion for and we should help each other advance.... Well let the hate comments and internet tough guys commence. Just how I feel right now
 
Interesting to note that the OP and the only person in this thread agreeing with him so far are both from the East Coast, a place I have never skied, and I haven't found this to be true at all out West.

You get what you give. Never had anyone even look at me wrong. But, I'm also the first guy to say hello to people, get stoked on what people are trying, etc. Maybe you're a dick and standoffish. Maybe you're just insecure and intimidated and project things on to other people because you're terrified of yourself and the world at large. Maybe you live in an area with an unusually dense asshole population.
 
Casual said it right, "You get what you give". I try to always go out with a smile on my face and a positive attitude and in return receive a lot of respect and support back. Of coarse there are going to be a few a for themselves A-holes out there but by no means by my experience is it 70%.
 
Yeah! There are really skiers like that. And we cannot get rid of them, as long as were taking the same mountain to glide. Let's just note for this.. A HUMBLE Skier - are the ones who are really the snow ripper, while the others who act so RUDE on slope and in forums are the ones who are actually that flip floppers and insecure. So cheer up! :)

The west is built on stoke. That being said, I've met some pretty dickish dudes in Mammoth before.
 
Personally experienced this in recent years.

I don't want to name names. He's a really cool dude with a fucked up perspective on skiing.

So this kid, all he really cares about is fame. Hanging out with pro skiers, getting pictures with them and trying to make it as a pro. After talking to this guy over the summer, I thought he was really good. He was talking about training dubs and a bunch of rail tricks. I thought it was really rad and I genuinely believed in him. Fast forward to this season. I ride with him, andddd this kid could not hit a ride on down rail. I swear I tried to teach him for 2 hours and he just couldn't do it. Training dubs? My ass.

Attitudes like this piss me off. So many people are focused on going pro or being the best that they lose the idea of what skiing is about. I hate when people go out, trying to one up other people(for no reason other than to say they're better). Just have fun and throw down some sick tricks for yourself and call it a day. Trying to impress others is so ridiculous especially when you can't even back up your claims.

Same with the negative attitudes skiers have on snowboarders and snowboarders have on skiers. We are literally doing the exact same sport. Only difference is we have 2 planks and go forward, and they have 1 and go sideways. Seriously, were all fuckin out there for the same reasons and to hate is so annoying. Lets just all get along and smoke a fuckin bong or something.
 
The only people I've encounted that have had bad attitudes are the rich kids who are usually 12-16 who still buy gear with their parents money. They think since they ski park, they've formed an elitist cult and the only way to get into it is to be good at park skiing. More often than not these kids who hate on other skiers in the park can't get an edge for shit and can't ski pow for shit. Put an icy slope, moguls or a foot of pow in front of them and they'll shit bricks.

Easiest way to deal with them is to not deal with them. Put music on and do your own thing. In every solo sport there will be a select group of people who hate for the sake of it. There are numerous reasons as to why people hate, ignorance, thrill of it, psychological reasons. Whatever the reason just ignore them. They'll grow out of it and if you show them you're better than them by not stooping to their level of immaturity then it really shows a true character of yourself.

If all else fails just tell their parents and they'll shit bricks and apologise in a second.
 
I mostly notice this with racers and race coaches. Most people the ski park at my hill are pretty chill.
 
Op is a gaper or a 12 year old, that's why other skiers are mean to him.

I for one have never experienced people that have really negative attitudes at bigger mountains on the East coast at least. The snowboarders (there were no skiers) from my old mountain hate me because they see me progressing and learning at my new home mountain this year but that's just because they are jealous.

Anyways, I definitely don't get those vibes at Stevens Pass, on many occasions I have talked with a bunch of park skiers who were way better then me at park and they were totally approachable and helpful when it came to tricks. I will agree there can be some douches and those guys are usually just stuck up assholes who think that they are actually the best skiers on the mountain, and those guys are usually pretty rare for sure. It just means they are immature. I am sorry if you get that vibe at your mountain man.

Personally at Sunday River I run into way more arrogant jerks who don't ski park. I am not sure whether I have ever met a park skier there who is just a straight up dickwad to everyone, but I see gapers who are both plain idiots and jerks to all skiers, especially park skiers.

BTW, chicken ramen ftw, not surprised it's in the lead.

Yeah I haven't felt that vibe with park skiers but non park skiers, absolutely. I sat in the racing training center for lunch one time and I got up to get napkins for some shit and when I went to sit back down, some teenager in a gs suit pulled my chair right out from under me. Then I've had older ski dads completely ignore me when I try to make small talk on the lift. It's more like anyone on the east who doesn't ski or ride park is a total fucking douchewad.

Sorry but it's what we have to do. Your tears help fuel the progression of the sport. It's a necessary evil. The ski industry is built on pain and suffering so the elite can prosper in the hills and hoard there riches and secret powder stashes. It's just the way it is. You're just a no class beat down fool, and you will always be that way, you might as well enjoy your life and watch the stars fade.

To people like that, they can fuck off. I don't think it's only in the park, it can come from anyone on the mountain. It's just like real life, there's a lot of assholes out there and either you let them bother you, or you don't. Karma's a bitch, and people like that get their payback eventually.
 
Hey guys eurofag here and I don't really get what you're asking. Is this something exclusive to the states? cuz I don't think we have that here. So I guess what I'm asking is What is ramen?

This I don't understand. Why one earth would anyone diss girls who ski park? This isn't a guys only sport. we should promote girls who ski park, there aren't many of them out there. I can't believe what some guys have said about these girls.

It's crazy that there's so much negativity between fellow skiers/boarders. We're in a very niche sport, we all love it, what's the point of being dicks to each other? I've always tried to be chill and be happy for other skiers that I'm riding with/meet. So it pisses me off when I meet someone that's just a complete asshole. You're looking at this sport completely wrong if you're being an asshole to the other people participating in it around you.

By the way, East Coaster. East seems to be the home of the douches.
 
I don't run into too many people I'd say are being douches in the parks I ride. The park scene is a goofy scene full of fun goofy people as far as I can see it.
