Im looking to buy new skis for the 08/09 season. I mostly ride in the Northeast groomers and alot of park, but i am also going to take several trips out west this winter. Im 5' 10" 190 lbs. Ive heard good things about the anthems and the kung fujas. Any input is Helpful!!!

Do you mean you want 08/09 skis, or just new skis in general? You seem to be looking for a solid all mountain ski that can handle EC park/ all mtn skiing and pow out west. I wouldn't recommend Anthems because they'll be too soft for much besides park in the EC...the ice coast is unforgiving. Kung Fujas might not be bad: they're stiffer than Anthems/Fujative, and are wider for pow pow. Definitely an option

A couple other recommendations, not really taking years into account

-Rossi Scratch BC/Brigade, if newer

-Line Chronic Wides?

-Dynastar Big Troubles

-Armada ARV

I'm not good with the grassroots companies like Moment and Bluehouse, so I'll leave that to someone who knows about them. Also keep in mind that the "older" the ski, the cheaper it will be. Have no qualms about buying the yellow Scratch BCs (06/07), if you can. They're amazing, hands down. Just do your research and you'll be fine

Best of luck, hopefully someone else can broaden this list!

anthems are definitely a good choice. wider base for more stability and they are more versatile than a thinner ski like invaders... i just ordered the spirals!

my only worries about the anthem is riding them on occasional powder days and stability in landings, does anyone know how they ride in pow and park?

Pow and Park they're pretty legit. Probably one of the best combos of the two, but you'll have to sit back on them a bit since they're a true twin. The tails can be a little soft if you land in the back seat in the park, but they're a super fun ski all around. I think the worry is that they'll be a little soft on the ice. Fun ski though.

Pow = fine. They're soft, not too skinny, playful

Rails = Great. Extra edging technology or whatever makes them uberdurable

Jumps = Not so much. You're a big guy, you'd wash out on them.

If you do more rails in the park, Anthems would be fine. If more jumping, then look into something stiffer...

I rode fischer adicts for 2 years and I thought they were sick. They're perfect for park and groomers and they worked fine for me when I went to whistler last winter. The only problem with those is that the top sheet was trashed but the 08/09 adict probably won't chip cause the company has been improving them

Good link man, good stuff.

Those are good choices, but if I were you I'd go straight to the ARVs. At 92 in the waist they'll carry around everywhere pretty well. I feel as though the Blends, with a 100 waist, would be too fat for all the EC park you do. The Chronics are a possibility too though, being a stiffer ski, but they're a bit skinnier at 85 in the waist.

Take that link and go snoop around, searching the skis he mentioned.

And to the post above, Addicts are park skis; we're looking for all mountain skis, although its not unheard of riding park skis out of the park, especially when they're stiffer.

I think you are looking in the right direction looking at the ARV or the Kung Fujas, both great skis, and at first I was think Kung Fujas for sure but you could work either of them problem is between the two you would probably choose the Kung Fujas 179, in the ARV you have to decide between the 175 or the 185, you know the difference 185 more stable in pow, but not as easy to spin around, 175 would be a lot of fun at your size, you'd be able to get them around everywhere very easy, very snappy, lots of fun, then kung at 179 measure more to the 183, great all around check 'em out

I live in the East and I'm roughly the same height (+ about 2 inches) and weight, so I ride on the Chronics. They are great for everything I can throw out at it. Ice, groomers, chutes, park, whatever. I take a few trips out West each year and they can handle the pow pretty well since they are 85 at the waist.

AR6 anyone? you're only takin one trip out west and still if u do get some pow u should be fine, not as great as on fatter skis but ull enjoy these alot more here on the east coast the rest of the season as these are some of the best east coast all-mountain skis and are also dope as hell in the park
