Needless Snowmaking

I know I've made a bunch of thread tonight. Nothing against A-Bay, Loveland, and whom ever else is already making man made snow. I know we all want to ski right now but I don't think they should be making snow when they can just wait and let it fall naturally. I mean think about how many gallons of water their using and how much energy goes into snowmaking. So what I'm getting at is that their wasting resources and polluting our Earth to create snow so people can start skiing a couple weeks early.

What do you guys think? Hate all you want, its just my opinion.
 
Dude think about it. All that snow they are making is going to melt eventually and what do you think that will turn into???? So we may be using the resource now but we will get it back in the spring. Think about it....
 
Your an idiot... What I was trying to get at is that it take A LOT of energy to make the snow which just adds to global warming, a skiers enemy.
 
it is backwards. the ski season should go from xmas to may like most snowfall patterns instead of thanksgiving to easter. blame it on nice spring weather and spring sports like baseball.
 
I agree. I am willing to wait for natural snow. I like skiing, but it's not worth it IMO
 
well in my opinion here in the midwest we dont get a lot of snow so we need to make it to ski at all. the sooner the better as well.
 
i think those resorts have figured it out and that they make enough money in those few extra weeks to offset the energy cost and stuff so it is definatley not htere fault they are jsut making moneey
 
Well that makes sense because its the midwest. But when a resort in Colorado or Utah is snowmaking so they can start a couple weeks early is a waste. Their obviously gonna get pounded in a couple of weeks with a shitload of NATURAL snow.
 
So what your telling me is that your just a 16 year old punk who doesn't give a shit about polluting the Earth when you could wait a couple of weeks and have a lot of snow or powder for that matter?
 
In the global scheme of things snow making does nothing to pollute the earth. Why not ski early? Ski resorts are a business, they compete to be the first open and rape people for lift tickets to ski one groomer. Also,without snow making there would be no terrain parks.
 
Your really mad tonight. I think the sooner the better. I would rather not wait a couple of weeks, but you're right it does contribute to global warming. So that sucks. I wish they could figure out a way to make it unharmful but as long as we're wishing I wish cars were completely environmentally friendly too but they aren't. You aren't going to change their mind so enjoy the early season.
 
It is called alternative energy sources like wind and water power. i know at stevens pass in washington that they power atleast one of their chairs with windpower, so if we use alternative sources, we can halp save the world and ski early at the same time
 
Than explain all the weird weather events that have been happening lately. You can't just dump shit into the atmosphere and think nothing is gonna happen. Something is gonna happen... I just think you don't want to except global warming so that you don't have to justify your waste.
 
They are called natural weather patterns. I think you just believe everything you hear and are in no way knowledgeable about it. The temperature of the earth has risen less than 2 degrees in the last hundred years. That's not much cause for concern.
 
Funny, actually there is a WHOLE LOT of fact to back it up. Not necessarily "global warming" but climate change on a grand, and negative scale, as well as many many other negative effects we are having on the earth that will come back to kick us in the ass in the very near future.

and to the thread creator: calm down, and read what people are writing, think about it, and respond, rather than posting insults and jumping to conclusions.
 
I agree that there are facts for climate change, but not global warming. Also have you guys noticed that the earth naturally cools and warms up over periods of time?? So this is probably just like one of those times.
 
I am horrible at remembering and spitting out FACTS. Just google it. Check out NASA and NOAA. Ice caps are melting, average temperatures are warmer etc. An inconvenient truth would be a good read. But yeah you're probably right. It's all the scientists that have done the research that are wrong. They should really be listening to you.

you mean to tell me since the earth has been around some 4 billion years that the climate has changed??? earth warms..it cools. thats childs play to think something like not making snow is going to change something so powerful.
 
I agree, the first moon landing might of been fake, but disclaiming NASA/NOAA's satellite images and data of polar ice caps is insane...
 
Well I must be insane and scientists have not been around long enough to actually see the natural cycle of the earths climate. Plus it is not warming everywhere, otherwise you would not have very much snow right now. The earth's core temperature is just going on its natural cycle of warming up and cooling off
 
What are you talking about??? Just leave it alone and go on living your life. Changing whether ski resorts make snow or don't is not going to save the world. Go debate about something like alternative fuel sources for cars or something on the Non-ski gabber forum.

i really could care less if they are using energy, first, most this global warming crap is just a bunch of bullshit, ever since everyone started going crazy about global warming, i have only seen absolutely no effect and only amazing winters, last winter was colder than most on record, and had much more snowfall than most on record. when i see an ounce of actual effect, then yes ill believe SOME of this crap.
and really, if you think resorts blowing snow is actually going to have a lasting effect on this 4.5 billion year old massive planet that has gone through alot more than a little car pollution, your most likely retarded.

 
i agree that we need to atleast try to be somewhat good on the enviornment, because yes, it does have SOME effect on some things, but for the most part, the global warming thing is a bunch of crap. shit they made an entire movie about it (an inconveniant truth) and most of that was a lie, they fired any scientists they were using that said anything against global warming. and half the "facts" were skewed.
we have been "polluting" for only around 100 years now, thats like a fraction of a second in someones lifetime. we arent doing shit.
 
Vail Resorts uses wind power for everything. Since A Basin is aligned with them and are even hippier then I assume that they buy wind offsets to power their shit, unless they can find a way to convert their self righteousness into power.

If you guys want to talk about this, why not just shut down all the midwest resorts? Only gapers live there anyway. People should live in climates where they don't need any heaters or air conditioners. Injuns did it and look at them, they own casinos, how could they be wrong?

I could tear this apart but I'm not going to... i have to say though... You haven't seen any effects? How long have you lived on this planet? this is a global scale thing, it can't just be observed over a couple of years.

There is scientific FACT that shows that the earth goes through warming and cooling phases... there is also FACT showing that we are now OFF of these natural curves, in a major way.

Stop pulling shit out of your asses and learn something.

I go to school at a RESEARCH UNIVERSITY, meaning that the professors have to do legitimate research to keep their jobs. Some of the people here are leading the world sciences in environmental studies. EVERYONE agrees that we are having adverse effects on the world, and could put evidence... numbers, graphs, pictures, whatever you want to show that there is UNDENIABLY change going on. HARD FACTS.

The days of people disagreeing that we are having a severe adverse effect on our environment are gone. This is truth, supported by fact. You are buying into the same hype that people who buy into the whole "GO GREEN! GO GREEN!" trend are buying into, but on the opposite end. You and OAKL3Y whatever are just as ignorant as they are; same level.

I can't believe I am getting into a environment debate on newschoolers... I should know after seeing a million of them that they are pointless. Just learn some facts before you post.
