Need your advice, gun people.

an AR in 5.56 isn't that heavy. But have it chambered in a suitable large game calibre and it's an 8-9 lb rifle.

a standard hunting rifle is about 7 lbs.

and you really do feel that extra weight after a few hours.

Can you explain to me how "chambering" an AR15 in a larger caliber adds weight? Or are you using AR15 and AR10 interchangeably, as if they are the same rifle? You can build a large portion of an AR15 out of composite's. Good luck doing that with your bolt action rifle.

Finally someone wants my advice, buy the gun

larger calibre = heavier barrel. larger diameter + thicker wall. comparing 30-06 to .308 there obviously won't be much difference, but moving up from .223 to .308 and it is quite noticeable.

I mean you COULD make them the same weight, but then you'd either have a really heavy .223 barrel or a really light and potentially unsafe .308 barrel

for instance here's a good comparison with Bushmaster's MOE rifles. generally about 1 1/2 lbs more for .308 chambered rifles. Granted it's not only the barrel that's different, but overall the larger the calibre the heavier the weapon. pretty standard stuff.

Besides all the practical benefits to an AR over a standard rifle that people have been posting, lets not forget theyre damn sexy rifles

"Standard Stuff" - you really are ignorant.

.308 = AR10 not an AR15.

You're comparing two completely different gun platforms. Yes, they "look" similar, but they utilize completely different receivers. You can never have a 308 Win and 223 Rem shoot from the same receiver. Plus, barrel weight is the stupidest comparison you could have made. There are various barrel profiles offered plus the option to flute the heavy barrel profiles.

If your using it for home defense I would suggest getting something with sight posts or pick up some back up iron sights. Closer range iron sights are much better then an optic with any zoom. Although optics are better to shoot with at a distance.

In my experience it's the exact opposite. A red dot sight has the be the easiest thing to pick up quickly. Plus shooting with both eyes open gives you a much better field of view.

I think he meant magnified optic, not a red dot.

Do I live in "white america"?

...no? Where I'm moving the population is 84% african american and violent crime is common.

Do I "need" it?

...no? Would I like it? Absolutely.

Not tryin to be racist, but that really sucks haha. I understand why you want an AR-15 now.

And for the people saying hunting its not ethical to hunt deer with an AR-15, many more people than you think use AR's to hunt deer. Why not if you have one already for target shooting or whatever?

dont get a bush master, if you dont get a HK91 you are a loser nerd. they are only 6grand.

Yeah just reread and realized it said with any zoom not without.

Yeah im talking about anything with zoom. A cco (red dot) is made to be able to pick up and shoot with in close quarters. I always leave both eyes open when shooting with any optic. Makes it way easier to shoot and line up the next shot. Its actually how your supposed to shoot with ar's.

That was my plan. The guy who owns the house has an EOTech holographic sight and it's beautiful.
