we're thinking of getting a lakehouse upstate NY, can i get some info on Gore and Whiteface, snowfall? park? difficulty? i heard something about the slides on whiteface, how steep/hard are they, thanx
i have a season pass to both..gore dosent have a very good park but they are expanding this year...whiteface is good but it gets icy really fast..a lot of hard landings
how many of you ski at whiteface on a regular basis? sure it gets icybut its not that bad, and they keep the park soft no matter what unless you come for the world cup then there is no park.. but the trails are more challenging at whiteface and the slides are open about 4 days a year so if you get lucky you can have some fun on them. whitefaces park this year may get moved to boreen for the entire season and word of a burton progression park is there too. they already have a contract for new rails and the head of parkstaff said he plans on making bigger/ differnt features if there is enough snow
i ski whiteface 10-15 days a year, skiied gore twice. i love whiteface, def some of the most challenging terrain in the US, the slides are similar to skiing out west when they are open and the snow is good. Lake Placid is sweet, id try to get a house closest to placid as possible. def fun places to ski though
whiteface this last season was icy like 10 days out of every day i went wich was in the 50's there park as stated above is getting bigger and better every year. and the slides were awsome this year and there opening up the side of the mountain on the other side of the slides for more diverse terrain and better snowpack this should be done by 2008
for good snow go to vermont whiteface is the best in new york for back country it's all about knowing the right people and good snow whiteface is a really good mountain and there is si always something to do
gores deff got some good glades if you know where to go. their park sucks the shitter... look at my vids and almost all of them are in gores park. this year their expanding a bunch and supposed to get a decent park but idk if its gunna happen... theres a meeting about it sometime this month so hopefully it turs out for the better.
as for whitefacei dont know much (only been 2x) but their park is hella better. the slides are only open a few times a year like previously said. i eard this feb break was the only time they opened but they were at least waist deep everywhere you go and then 6-7 feet in some winddrifs. thats basically all i know but alkky and liberti ski their regularly so ask them
It is that steep. It is the steepest cut trail in the Northeast. The face is a sheer drop off so sometimes you have to go around it. A few years ago the had a ton of snow and there was an avalanche where the whole face slid down and into and oncoming trail. If you've ever been there you know what trail I'm talking about. I was 6 when I first went on it and it was freaky thats for sure but once you think about it its just like making any other turns on a slope but watch out because if you fall, you're not gettin up till you hit the bottom. Gore also has some sick glades if you know where to go. My dad is friends with a bunch of instructors there and my step mom use to teach there so we usually hit up all the glades. Also if you go, make sure you get a massage. My step mom does them just look for the lady with the massage chair. They are the best after a long day of skiing.
whiteface is pretty good if you're stuck in the East. big vertical, park, challenging runs and cruisers and cat track jumps. christ, what could be that much better in the east? i haven't skied there for a long time though.
