Need input on new clothing tag

Alright so for a design project we have to design a logo for a clothing company close to A&F, j.crew etc. style the logo should be both for male and female and there are many other restrictions but mainly the target audience is middle school-college, if you saw this kokopelli on a clothing tag would it attract you and make you want to buy it/would you wear clothing that had this on the tag? this is a rough sketch (not the final) but the flute was removed from the original since it is a clothing company not for music. leave feedback, age, gender and if you do/don't like the idea.

thanks

Hey there I am not overly drawn to it, I have seen that logo many times over with the flute. I would be more interested in a variation of the original picture not so much of a copy.

I did look at your hats though and am a big fan of those, nice work with the hook.

ps. this isn't for a real company it is pure fiction for a design project so really there is no copywrite issues but once again this is not the final product it will be changed just looking for input upon the whole idea.

thanks for the hat compliment

i dont get it? what does the logo have to do with clothing? you'd have to give a little more background. also. is this a graphic to be printed on the clothing or is it going to be an actual hang tag with size information? id explore more with it and throw it in illustrator to make it vector so you can change it easier. then make mock hang tags etc.. and go from there.

Make sure that your logo is simple and easily recognizable...which you

have accomplished with your kokopelli logo, it is a good logo. I just

don’t think that logo is very representative of your target audience…IMO (29m)

To me this symbol reminds me of aging suburban phony hippies that buy bamboo wind chimes and yard sculptures made of old bicycle parts at farmers markets...sorry that's just my take on how I perceive that image (for what its worth). Many of the brands you are referencing have animal silhouettes as logos: eagle (AE), moose (a&f), seagull (Hollister) etc. also brands like j crew use some type of modified letter or combinations of initials combined into shapes i.e. Calvin Kline typography type logos.

Do you have a company name in mind?

where is this "company" from?

what is its history?

The logo should represent the principals/history of your company. If you want to go the animal route maybe there is a specific anima/plant/landmark that is related to the company’s origin? What objects represent your target audience? The logo should elude to the attitude/feeling or lifestyle of your brand. you are not selling clothing but rather the feeling/experience that your clothing brand gives your customer.

For example the a&f bull moose might represent the strength, confidence, and virility of youth, he is out to fight other dudes and impress chicks, he wants to be the dominant bull, the alpha male... Okay, I am only being halfway serious here but you get the idea.

sorry for such a long response, just trying to give some meaningful feedback.

you ask what it has to do with clothing-

kokopelli was a figure that used to travel to different towns/tribes he would bring joy/happiness to the people and would plant seeds for them secretly to enhance their growth of crops no one would know where it was coming from..

sooo the "company" i am designing for kids in that age range are looking for freedom and happiness in their lives they don't want to have to listen to their parents and are in a transitional stage of their lives either middle-high school or high to college sooo it is a growth n development stage which refers back to the planting and growth he brought.

the logo we come up with cannot just be some random object that may visually appeal to the audience it has to have meaning behind it as well that is where i came up with the kokopelli.

and i am designing the hang tag for the company however the first part of the prj is all hand drawn therefore im not gonna just throw it in adobe to show you that will be later on when the tangable tag is produced for now i am just looking for feedback from people on the concept

trust me the design professor isnt going to make things easy for us with a name like "american eagle" where we can just use an eagle plus thats not creative the company name is basics inc. for everyone that is the name they are designing for and A&F has a moose because they originated as an outdoors store.

your design is not working, because you have to describe the meaning.

a good design has a clear statement, which you easily recognize. For example:

Ferrari: Horsepower

Deutsche Bank: A diagram that goes upwards, signalizing your money will increase with Deutsche Bank.

etc.

or you know the nike swoosh for example..EVERYONE gets that...actually no nike was a greek godess and i'm sure not everyone knew that or knows where the swoosh comes from. a good idea and concept isnt always understood by the everyday consumer much like abercrombie and fitch..strong moose for a strong company and whatever else people come up with? no A&F has a moose for their logo simply because they started out as an outdoors store.

same with lacoste and the alligator..its not random the creator of the company played tennis and his nickname was alligator and that is where the logo came from not always are things just plain out in your face such as american eagle with an eagle logo.

True, but... The logo is more practical for something like a outdoor clothing brand, like something catering to windbreakers or hiking gear. A&F may have started that way, but you aren't, so think about something that your market can relate to.

look. you asked for people's opinions and you're gettin them. We aren't too keen on a logo we've seen adapted and abused a million times. Judging by the way you've been defending it you seem pretty attached. If you really like it, keep it, but it is unoriginal, I don't identify with it, and the implications of the image are not immediately evident. Start with the name for the company ad go from there.

i feel like its something i would buy from an organic food store right before i went hiking, bird watching, or read some ranger rick. Is that what you were going for?

iv seen this exact same design on some local beer companys bottles and on clocks and pictures.i dont like it.

eh, I'm not too fond of it.

another thing to think about is the shape of it. it seems all the logos mentioned in this thread are horizontal.. moose, seagull, alligator, etc. not sure why, but they seem to be working better/ a popular trend. or maybe I'm full of it, who knows.

ehh, im not feelin it too much. Its not catchy enough. I say try makin something thats new and revolutionary. Since your on newschoolers maybe make a logo that has sotin to do with skiing. How about sotin like the first letter of ur name in a sweet design. Wats ur brand gonna be called anyway. I dont think your gonna get too far without a name. Just sayin. do sotin like this : d[-_-]b. that looks pretty dope. Just figure out a brand name and its going to be a lot easier to work from there. trust me, i've been in your situation and its a lot easier when you have that done.

Not attracted what so ever.. Looks like a cheap 4-5 year old Wal-Mart design (not trying to be mean, just speaking my mind)

here we go.. another wannabe art major who thinks shes got the best shit out there.... why not take the constructive critisism from people and show us version 2?btw.. i do design for a living...

unfortunately its too close to the lunastix logo to be original. if this is for a class for highschool, don't worry about it. But if this is a university or college class, then don't risk it. plagiarism is taken pretty seriously at most schools.

there are already so many companies/things that have that kokopelli design on it already. its way too common. find something more original.

its too generic for me...i already know many other companies that use that in their gear/clothing/food whatever. also your marketing towards a middleschool crowd and I don't think that missleschoolers would really know what is it let alone connect to it. So in my opinion I'd say make it a little more original and have it connect with your target audience a little more.
if those hats are what their for though there sweet hats!

dude your super lameee

wannabe art major?

NOT i am a graphic design major no wannabe in that

and i dont think i've got the best shit out there so fuck off

it was input i needed for a project ITS NOT A REAL FUCKING COMPANY

i don't care if you do design for a living your an ass with constructive critisism because you ain't got none.

Ok, so I was GOING to comment on your mark and give you some crit. I make all my money in the design field as well... But after this, you obviously have some deeper-rooted issues going on.
First of all, you asked for honest critique from an un-biased standpoint, your market audience, and you got it. People called it lame, said they had seen it before, whatever they said. THAT is what you asked for. You need to listen. It DOES NOT matter what your concept is unless your concept comes through. Calling people "lame" doesn't help your cause or justify an explanation.
It also DOES NOT matter if it's a real company or not. You shouldn't turn in bad work just because it's "not a real company". It IS a real company for all intensive purposes in design school, because you are learning how to make work for the real world. Well, here you have it: real world feedback.
That icon is on every t-shirt in every tourist shop in the western U.S. It doesn't matter what it's meaning is. It has been used so much in so many ways on so many kitschy souvenirs that it has no meaning anymore. So many people have been saying this in so many words that you should have caught on.
If you are doing market research, listen to your test group. If you are doing in-class critique, or even online critique, listen to your peers and show some respect.
