I put this in Media and arts because I felt the people here would give better responses. Admin if its out of place feel free to move it.

Looking to upgrade a few electronics for a upcoming job in a remote area so looking for some advice and hopefully get some questions answered.

First off looking at a external hard drive. Gonna down load a bunch of movies and music. I know I need to buy a PC formatted. Looking at 2TB/3.0usb and SSD for the fact lots of people swap movies/music where Im going. SSD because I hear they are durable (Am I understanding that correct?).

Any recommendations or any brands I should stay away from?

Looking at Noise canceling headphones. Possibly gonna bite the bullet and buy wireless. Will I have to pay out the butt for wireless ones or are there good wired brands out there? Recommendations please.

Laptops. Looking at a solid 2 in 1 laptop for mainly watching movies/managing music and photos. Its gonna be a PC.

Im not good with laptops lingo so what should I be looking for to get good performance laptop?

Big question I have about these types of laptops is since I am gonna buy a External hard drive can I go with a cheaper laptop with less memory but still get good performance?

Another big question. I have Iphone as my music listening device. Will I have a hell of a time transferring large amounts of music from a external hard drive to my laptop, to the apple music downloader?

Or am I missing a step in how I should be managing large amounts of music for apple devices? (other than bying a $2,000 apple laptop).

Any information would be greatly appreciated since Im pretty useless when it comes to finding good electronics.

Thanks NSrs.

you're correct that SSDs are more durable due to no moving parts, the downside is they're significantly more expensive than HDDs. I'd recommend springing for an SSD in whatever laptop you buy, and for your external storage just getting an HDD, since the SSD will really affect the performance of your laptop. I use the rugged LaCie thunderbolt drives for all my footage and the rubber exterior is decently durable and the price is decent compared to the SSD versions

for noise cancelling headphones I'd highly recommend the Sony mdr-1000x, or the 1000x m2 if you can afford the bit extra. When I bought mine I bought the Bose QC-35s also to test, and ended up returning the Bose since the Sony's sounded way better with the same level of noise cancelling, and the m2 has upped the noise canceling even more from the original. If you're buying noise cancelling headphones it's worth it to just go all in on wireless, for comfort, convenience and future proofing sake. The Sonys have a standard 3.5mm jack on them to plug into if you run out of battery/want to be wired, but the Bose have some proprietary plug.
