Need idea for first tattoo

Ok, so i need some idea's for my first tattoo...and i want a pretty sick idea, so i trust NS to post some pretty legit suggestions. And i dont want any comments saying "Tattoo's are personal, dont just put any random thing on your body and call it good." I already know its on there for life...but if its legit, then i dont care. I am Irish, so if u got any Irish or Celtic idea's my family would dig that. But im thinking of some lyrics to a song, preferably an acoustic song,and that would slide down my ribcage. Or i would be putting a picture on the side of my shoulder, right above my bicep.
 
Just a warning, a piece on your ribcage hurts sooooo fucking bad. And for your first one, that is gonna be even more painful. The outside of the arm is nothing though.,.. I just got one there monday, it did not hurt at all.
 
i just got a skier hiking right below my ribs on my kidney kinda...doesnt hurt too bad it's all relative...it just feels like a deep scratch along with one of those shocker things...dont listen to what people say and do what YOU want...check mine out in my pics...make sure if u do lyrics its something u really like and it inspires you are somethin

For real man. I went through a stage where i wanted a tattoo so bad i would've put anything on myself. Some people get tattoos for the dumbest reasons. If you really want one, come up with something that means something to you.

I know this is the last thing you want to hear, and don't take it as hate man. Just a heads up, you're either gonna get really stupid answers, or answers like this. NS is not the place to ask this.
 
i once saw a homeless guy with a big tatoo across his chest. it read, "Lead Zepellin."

so if you get a tatoo of words, makes sure the artist can spell
 
I know this may be weird to be on an Irish heritige person...but i stole it from my favorite fighter, and he is a french-canadian.

It means that i can be gentle, but i can also be violent.

Be careful with song lyrics. I want some song lyrics too and I've been thinking about it for a looooong time. just make sure you dont get some flavor of the week song, get one that will never get old yah dig!? just a heads up
 
You shouldn't get a tattoo for any other reason than that it's fucking badass. I always wanted one that meant something to me, and that's cool if you really know exactly what you want because you're so personally invested in it. If you're trying to come up with something that has meaning... not really the same. It's gonna get old. So, get something that's awesome. Like a bear, or a coy fish, or a robotic python. Fuck if I know. I already know what I'm getting: A fucking pterodactyl, angrily swooping in like it's about to snatch up a small Mexican child. Seeing as it's custom drawn for me already, I guess you can do that one. It's pretty damn cool haha. But yeah, faked meaning sucks. Badass animals will always be badass.
 
tricks for non tacky tattoos:

dont get any lettering if it isnt your culture, unless theres a reason you got it. dont get tribal unless youre one of those full body suit tribal people with actual nice shit. if you want lyrics, make sure it doesnt sound or read like a lyrics unless you have this ultimate reason for it, i.e. favorite life altering poem. remember ink is permanent, and the piece should be timeless, not trendy. my friend and i laugh at everyone who covers up their chinese lettering or kanji with lilies and lotus flowers. if you get a dragon, make sure its a pretty sick big fucking dragon. i suggest checking out a style, then shopping for an artist that way the person you ask to do your piece wants to do it and can do it properly. if it doesnt mean anything to you, it better be epic.
 
thats a good idea, but my last name is Davis, it came from my dad who is....german/polish/russian...and my mom is 100% Irish, so im only 50% irish. And the O'Dea family crest on somebody who isnt named O'dea is kinda weird...but ill think on it.

i say you have to want it for at least 6 months, and good luck getting a successful job if it viable on your body...
 
^this.. i would never get a tatoo unless i had thought it up myself and was 100% i wanted it! i hate the idea of copying someone elses ideas .. but eh just my 2 cents
 
Well with the 2 family crests i cant really go wrong. I mean, i take major pride in Davis being my last night, i take after my dad and brothers and most people learn to respect our last name as well. And my moms side of the family is mad cool to and i couldnt be closer to anybody than my grampa, so i have respect for that side of my family too. So the combination of the two family crests is perfect. And i am a really nice person, but fighting is my thing, i train daily and have done high school wrestling, Jui Jitsue, and overall MMA training, so i can be gentle, but also violent....so that fits me perfectly. So either one of my idea's sounds good to me. Except i did steal the Kanji from GSP, it fits me well, and i will always look up to GSP.
 
duuuuude, I'm a fan of GSP as well, but having the exact same tattoo is beyond lame.

I really think you just want a tattoo for the sake of getting a tattoo, which might not seem like a bad thing, but I think you'll definitely regret it.
