any info at all would be of service, im just a noob from jersey

my deal:
going to argentina this summer with SASS (yesssss) for first major trip out of north america. hear its lots and lots of pow and my ninthwards probably wont keep it up. im from NJ and i ski mostly park just cuz there aint much else to do, but i love pow from what ive experienced (spankys ladder in whistler was my first real experience this winter) and im also 90% sure im movin to colorado next year so i wont just be using them for the 17 days in argentina and puttin em in my closet forever

im 6 foot, 175-180 and i guess i like a stiffer ski? my old lines were like noodles then my TMs were mad fun and my mik d pros are a ton of fun but got eaten up in whistler...

any help appreciated

sounds like you need something like the seth. its an awesome ski and handles every kind of snow well so it will be good for the summer and out west and its even a decent ski in the park. im not sure if you have a size prefernce but some guy in in the Buy/sell/trade forum has a great deal on this years in a 179

I'm a similar size to you and love my Scratch Steezes, they're fairly stiff and are super smooth and a pretty good all mountain ski. I also skied the Gotamas a lot this season and they were great and fairly stiff as well.

The JJ would be a great ski for you. Plenty big enough to float and you can ride them on anything. I love mine.

Get the Hell Bents, you will not be sorry. Get the 189. I have them and love them. I also have karmas and gotamas, but I chose the hell bents 95% of the time. If you have the opportunity try a bunch of different ones all in one day if you can work that out. By trying them all in the same day you can make a better comparison than spreading it out over a 2 week period, mainly because you will be in the same mindset and you can try them in the same conditions, hopefully pow. The different charateristics will be fresh in your head also.

If you want a stiff ski, dont get the hellbents. Volkl looks like they have a good somewhat stiff ski out there, dont konw the name. I'd also suggest the Atomic Thug but they arent terribly stiff. You could get the 192 thug and center mount or close to it and it would ski closer to a 180 something, but you would get that added stiffness and stability from a longer ski. If you need a ski to do everythign on I would get something between 100-110 underfoot so you can still play a bit in the park. Have fun in south america

thanks for the replies so far!

does anyone know if theres a demo day or anything that i could hook up while at SASS or should i just spring for it and buy a pair before i go?

as for size preference, my TMs back in the day before they were stolen were 176, my mik ds 176, and my other TMS are 181, i know alot of people prefer bigger but i dunno too much about that since ive never ridden anything else

wish i could demo stuff this year but tore my acl a few weeks ago bahhh

I love my steezes as well, however, if you are from New Jersey, have you ever even skied powder before? If not you might want a more "beginners powder ski" or something, which would be softer. But if you want fairly stiff the Steeze is really nice

well i mean ive been in killy after some storms 2+ feet, tremblant a couple times where there was some nice snow, and like i said, whistler for first time this winter and blackcomb was savagely awesome and by far the best skiing of my life, so yea, i get the idea and i love it, and i think i will pick it up real quick with a decent ski

If you want an all mountain powder ski check out the steeze, seth, prophet 100, or something along those lines,

If you want a powder specific ski go ARG, Hellbent, or something like that

He's from Jersey. If he came out to Colorado and tried the Hellbent's, JP's or EP's I bet you he would fall in love with them.

for a stiff ski the new Line Motherships are going to be super hard. But I would say Hellbents, EHPs, or Seths would all be good

nomen, i was with you on the scorning-the-recommendations-given-thusfar-angle but LP or Squad for a relative newcomer to sking powder from NJ? I think that's a bit strong sir...

Threadmaker: 186 Prophet 100s. Done- awesome choice well done. Don't think twice.

My boyfriend is 6 foot, about 175 and is from Washington and he skis JJ's. He absolutely loves his for Vail days, and of course face shots in Washington. But of course it's all preference.

Word.

Speaking of innovation. Ski companies need to make more inovation in womens skis. K2 is the only company that is making womens skis over 170. I don't mind riding regular skis, but all they have to do is make them for the tall chicks out there.

Sorry for the derailment. You may proceed.

if you want a ski over 170, just ride guys skis no? i personally don't buy into the need 4 "female/male specific" skis but whatever...

jj would be great as would scott p4's (on backcountry right now for $430 by the way) and line prophit 100's

moment makes some pretty cool womens skis?

if you dont need a twin i think dynastar makes a womens ski in the legend series..

but to the thread maker if you want an all out pow ski look at some 185/195 Praxis-the instant pivot poitn will be $$ in the trees, or you could even check out some of moments fatter skis-incredible light and nimble for the trees over here. ahh ill also toss out some 183 bros for a more all around ski, 179 fats for a more pow oriented ski..

ahh theres more options im not thinking of, but you get the idea. stay in the 100-110 for more all around, then also consider a reverse sidecut ski for that instant pivot point if yu want all out pow.

I'm sure Moment makes a dank womens ski, but they don't make them over 170. I'm 5'11", I want something longer. But I'm going to go with the Moment Tahoe in 180.

Of course I want a twin.

YES.

The steeze is amazing, but it's true, you might want a softer ski if you've never skied real powder/big mountain lines before. However, the steeze is a sick ski.

haha this thread rules. thanks guys (and girls) i guess ill just have to see whats floatin around the net and some local shops to see what i can bank on and not go broke.

and oh my name is anthony, just throwin that out there cuz i feel weird when everyone references me as the thread creator haha.

Word. I just got back from skiing in CO for the past two and a half months and went out to mow today...my knees are killing me.

Where are you going to move to in CO?

gotama,
katana
seth
hellbent
arg
jp
ant maybe,
ep pro(they die)

just go to your local shop and be like, yo son, hook me up with some fatties, they'll either know what you mean or try to sell you weed, win-win

I thought they made a sierra or pika in a 180, but i guess not..

sierra and tahoe are essentialy the same ski anyways.

but the steeze is nowhere near a stiff ski by any means..however, it may be a good option for you.

Go with the steeze! stiffer ski, but not rock solid. and if you can get a hold of the Rossi S7 check that out. i rode some last week, rockered, but not as much as the hellbents and a lot stiffer. thats gonna be my next fat ski.

have you ridden the steeze? or just heard people talk about them, i find my steezes pretty stiff but not un manageable by any means, a great ski for any soft conditions but it really stands out not just in blower pow but the crud you get for the next few days after which if your going to be skiing a resort is what you'll want to get. Hellbents are great but they really arent as much fun on hardpack as some people make them look.

By the way im 6' 150ish lbs and i have the 186(or 85 i cant remember) steeze and it works great for me.

not too sure about that just yet, my friend josh moved to breck this past season so if hes gonna be out there again i guess breck, i dont really care honestly , CO is CO and its NOT NJ so im happy haha

next year's salomon rockered stuff seemed legit

can't go wrong with guns either, although they will lose pop after couple seasons

but guns are amazing in trees and soft stuff, just amazing

Word. I don't know exactly where I am going to move to in August. Hopefully I can find a legit roomie or something somewhere.

everybody who talks about them says theyre stiff, so no?

if youve ever read any of my advice it is based of personal experience..given i have not skied them..i have hand flexed them and they were pretty fuckin soft..they are firm at most...but not nearly stiff.

not ripping on the ski as i clearly said they *may* be a good option for the dude. they got rave reviews all year, so clearly they are a decent ski.

I ski them every pow day. They are not stiff compared to BSquad 104's, or Legend Pro Riders, or Legend Pro Plus XXL's, or even ARMADA ARG's, but compared to alot of skis they are quite stiff, especially for a beginner powder skier.
