I have this one question I'm kind of stuck on and none of my friends get it or they are deciding to not be helpful so i am using my last resort and coming to ns for help with homework.

The question goes:

Assess the moral arguments and political actions of those opposed to the spread of slavery in the contest of the following: the Missouri Compromise, the Mexican War, the Compromise of 1850, and the Kansas-Nebraska Act.

Any help would be appreciated.

THANKS!

Missouri Compromise and Kansas-Nebraska Act both deal with how far slavery should be allowed to spread. A lot of debate about trading slave for non-slave states to keep an equilibrium in the union...an easy online search can help clear a lot of this up....main issue at hand is how far should slavery be allowed to spread? the US was in manifest destiny and rapidly exploring to the west. should these new territories be free or slave? sorry if thats all over the place but my college US history class was quite a while ago...

Got your back bro! Took Ap gov. Last year and History two years ago.. now im in US Institutions.. lemme see if i can help ya!

Thesis:

America's victory over mexico in 1848 and its acquistion of new territories gave rise to quarrels over the expansion of slavery into the new land. Though civil war was inevitable, many attempts to justify the expansion of slavery were made through the Missouri Compromise, the Compromise of 1850, and the Kansas Nebraska Act.

This. Also add something along the lines that the proponents of the anti slavery movement knew that slavery could not be "killed" in one fell swoop. They used the missouri compromise, the compromise of 1850 and the Kansas nebraska act as a way to contain slavery and start to choke it out.

damn.. well if you need help in the future, lemme know! love history and helping people keeps the info fresh in my head

Be sure to talk about 'Bleeding Kansas' and the John Brown's raid in your paper. Look it up if you dont know what Im talking about.
