Need help picking all mtn/pow ski

Hey NS, after a pretty good first season on skis, I've decided its time to get pow sticks. I want something that will work on days when theres enough fresh snow that most people aren't lapping park.

I have a pair of 08 175 armada arv's mounted dead center that I used all season. They are so soft its scary to ride them, probably retiring them cause they're beat as fuck, pretty much solid 7 status. Picked up a pair of 10/11 177 step ups that will be my next season park ski, so I'm looking for something to basically use on non park days.

I'm 5'11", 185.

Broken it down into two different types I guess: Fatter all mountain with good float, then more powder oriented skis?

All mtn/pow: Line bacon, 4frnt turbo, Line Blend

POWWWWW: 4frnt crj, 4frnt yle, Line Opus

Those are the ones I've been thinking of. Thanks for helping NS!

They'll pretty much never touch the park, cause, then I'd be on my park skis... yeah

Jj's are on the stiffer side of pow skis. On3p has tons of options for pow though, there are the caylors which are their twin rockered ski that compete with most of the skis you listed the BG and wren and c&d are all big boy skis which will charge hard

Just did some research on the billy goats. They seem to be a lot like the CRJ. You guys have any experience with either? Also, if you were me, would you lean towards the wider all mtn ski, or go for the pow skis?

So definitely deciding to go with the more pow oriented skis instead of all mtn. on3p billygoat, 4frnt crj, armada jj, line opus, are all viable options. Who's skied these. Stiffness, float, and responsiveness are what i'm mainly concerned with.

hellbents if your only gonna ski pow with them. just be prepared for them to suck on non deep snow but its worth in in pow.

I ski bacons and love them. 108 underfoat with early rise in the tip and tale so they're able to float. Also, they are able to grip the hardpack because of the side wall cut. Overall very good ski.

Next year they're stepping up to 110 underfoot in the Jeffrey and 101 underfoot in J'mo. I ski Caylors (120 underfoot) as my everyday, for me they work great for everything but park and as my everyday ski I couldn't ask for anything more, eats pow, busts through crud and still able to get me back to the lift. If you're sure you're not going to be skiing park on these get the Caylors, if however you are and want a blend between park and pow definately go for the Jeffrey. There is a short review on my blog (quoted in my sig), if you're looking for a longer one, blister has a really comprehensive review.

I have last year's (11/12, the new modle) SFBs and I fucking LOVE them. They are hands down my favorite ski ever.

A small enough waist to ride on hardpack days, early rise/taper, stiff but still slightly buttery at the tips... The list goes on and on.

Right now I'm looking at Bacons, CRJ's, Billygoats. They all have camber underfoot, and a decent amount of rocker in tip and tail, with reverse side cut as well. So, I guess it'll come down to what price they are, if I can get them, and how wide I want to go.

Anybody use the CRJS or billygoats?

Bent chetlers are awesome BG's are awesome if you're into big lines and charging crj's seem heavy and clunky though. Have you considered the new magic j?

with your size I would say the bent chetler is a really good choice. It's got that stiff soft mix and is in the 185 version is a really great trees/drops/steeps ski. It can handle some pretty deep days. But when it gets nutty deep nothing beets a hellbent.

Get BG or Bacons/Jeffreys. Idk why people are trying to reccomend shit skis over these. The billy goat is amazing for 12/13 i hear. The have reverse sidecut now in all models and they rail groomers pretty well. They are expensive, but you get what you pay for. Jeffreys/bacons are gonna be a better everyday ski. The jeffreys this year are now a 110mm underfoot, but also have RES. they hold their own in the pow, and you can take them on groomers without effort. I would go for the Jeffrey if i were you, but the BG should still be a contender

new k2 pettitor would be a solid one to look into as well. line opus is good if u like surfy skiing. on3p has several good ones in these categories.

the 12/13 BG is AMAZING. I have owned the 10/11 BG and did not like it too much. This new BG is another animal all together. I was following Scott down some shitty wind blown pow with ice spots. He ski's fucking fast, and the BG's just were so stable. then we got down in to some softer snow in the tree's and they transformed into another ski completely, so turny and nimble. Really good ski.

I also ski own the 12/13 Jeffery. I skied it as my everyday ski for the last half of this season, and I can honestly say that I loved it most days. It performed well all around. And was my go to ski when I was unsure of conditions.

It is a more Jib oriented ski. Does not charge as hard as the BG, but plenty stable when you need it. I skied some sun baked pow one day that I was unsure how well the Jeffery would perform, but it handled it real well.

I have no idea why people say this.

If I'm not riding park, I'm on my Bents. If you're an aggressive skier, they're no problem at all getting up on an edge. And I'll ride over anything with them. One of my favorite things in the world, is absolutely ripping down groomers on them. Would I want to run slalom gates on them? Probably not, but if you want to charge over any snow condition, they're fun as hell.

I think they get a bad rap, is because some 5'6" 125lb kid thinks he needs 189 Bents, and just gets taken for a ride on them, because he's a light, weak skier.

Haha they were not designed to be on a groomer, they were made to go in bottomless pow which is the only place they should be skied. Sure they can be fun every now and then on groomers but it is definitely never my first choice... Or second.

Not getting bents. Hearing some good things about the BGs. Bacons are a definite possibility, as well as benchetlers. For some freakin reason, I still want to keep the CRJ in the list, dunno why. Seems like the same as a BG? My buddy has a pair of 11/12 opuseseseses, too soft for me!

So, Bacon, BG, CRJ, Bentcheter. Just cause I want them to work on my non park days where I might hit some pow.

No bents

I went from a Caylor to a 192 Bent Chetler. Biggest mistake I have made. BC is floppy in the tips and tails. It folds in the crud. Caylor is far superior for inbounds skiing, rails way harder. BG is even better for directional skiing.

I just looked at on3p 12/13, and the Jeffrey is like, perfect. Its pretty much the same type of ski as the bacon. I think I'm going to go with a ski like those two, enough float to be awesome on deep days, and still good enough for days when its just soft snow.

So, skis like the Jeffrey and Bacon?

Also, putting the CRJ and billygoat in the same category of ski.

why not look at a stiffer ski?

i've never understood why NSers only recommend fat, floppy, tail-rockered garbage.

at least give a look at skis like the dynastar legend pro rider 105, line influence 105/115, k2 sidestash, or blizzard cochise

I'd give the strong edge to the billygoat here. CRJs are just not a solid daily driver. they have no torsional stiffness, and practically ask to be skied standing straight up.

from my little experience with on3p, their skis seem to have good torsional stiffness and stability at speed. the viciks, tychoons, and wrenegades all were fine railing an edge. i only disliked their bamboo cores, something that so many people seem to love

Just can't decide if i want a >110 waist ski or less than 110.

Jeffrey, Bacon, Atomic Blog. Fatter all mountain

Billygoat, Bentchetler,Opus, Caylor.

Can't decide what I want to do. At least its summer!

I have owned all but one, well to be fair, it was an older Bacon.

Blog is floppy, and folds so you may not enjoy it at your size. Tips and tails chatter on harder snow.

I feel that Line does not give the Pollard Ski's (Bacon, and Opus) enough torsional rigidity. It's just my opinion, ligher skiers may not feel this.

Bentchetler is decent. Very fun in the pow, but not versatile enough at 123 under foot. Also the tips and tails are kind of floppy. Turn radius is kind of small too. I did like it it fresh. It kind of gave up the farm in the crud, and that is a deal breaker for me.

Jeffery great all around ski that you can use every day in the west. Elliptical side cut gives you the ability to choose your turn shape. Has surprised me in challenging conditions.

Caylor is the ski I have had the most amazing days on in the last 2 years. Intuative ski, that surprising rails groomers really well. It's like the Jeffery's big brother. I couls ski it most days in the west as well.

New BG. Honestly, it was love at first turn. Stable when you want to charge, turny when you want to jump in the tree's. ON3P has really knocked it out of the park with the RES. Already bought next years.

Of course with ON3P you get thicker edges and bases than anything the bigger companies are putting out. Durability is off the charts. And you're supporting a company that was born from this community.

Also....Presale is going on right now.

I hadn't really looked into On3p before this thread, but now I'm seriously considering the BG and Jeffrey. I might buy the presale Jeffrey, 110 underfoot is almost perfect. Just can't decide if I want to go wider than that. It needs to be my pow day ski, but also my "i'm not skiing park today" ski, which is usually when it's pow...

Might just buy the Jeffrey like, soon.

JJ'S are a great flat pow ski, but if you want something that will work nice on all terrain and snow condition, the. Get the line sir francis bacons. I have then

Thanks guys! I'm probably going with the jeffrey this next season, or the bg, or the caylor. On3p just makes stiff skis, which I want.

Do you all know of any ski like the jeffrey? 110 ish underfoot, and reasonably stiff? I wanted bacons before, they are the right size and all but just a little too soft I feel.

I say go 100% Line Sir Francis Bacons. I have the 2012 model and I loved them. The 2013 is the same ski and it can't get any better. The ski floats incredibly well for it size and is amazingly light. I took the ski everywhere, from pow to park. Nothing but good things to say about them.

How stiff is it? Keep in mind I'm a slightly heavier rider at 185. Thats why I'm keeping the Jeffrey and Bacon as my top two. Very similar skis, just different stiffness.
