what i really need help with is the rail legs. my friends and i have made them in the past buy making upside down T's that are about 2ft long pipe that rest on the ground and just stomping them in the snow. is there a better way of making rail legs?

i know how to weld . what im asking is how to make better rail legs or how people make the legs for there rails, you know the things that hold the rail up.

thanks for the help guys, im goin to home depot on friday to pic up some pipe.they have them for 30 bucks for 2in. 10ft. pipes. i grabed 3, 10ft. 2in. pies from a scrap yard for free but as soon as they get them the scrap yard melts them down and i cant stop by on a day to day so im gonna have to spend some money them. i plan on making a long flat rail and a flat down rail. i have a nice hill in the yard so im stoked to get started.

This is what i did but i had to replace the plastic pipe with 2 scaffolding poles because they kept cracking

check out the first rail guys it took just about 1/2 hour, if you can see the far leg it has a flat pice of steel witch worked out better then the pipe but i only had that one. im going to start the flat down rail tom.. its going to sit a little taller then this one i'll post pics when im done.

just have to add the legs and its done..im not sure what the next ones gonna be a dub barrel or flat down flat.

i really don't think you need an invite to the build a jib cult anymore, you seem to be well set when it comes to building rails

its really not as hard as i was thinking it would be. we made the bend without a pipe bender by just cuting out a 1/4 in. V half way in the pipe just under the bend and put some heat and a little pressure and it made a perfect bend. but im just going to keep puting up pics and any helpful tips i learn as i go.

the 3rd rail is done...clamped the pipe with two clamps about 3ft apart and lade down a 8in long weld and just moved the clamps as we went, im not sure if that was the best way to do it but it worked.

the legs we just used a saw to cut a point and with a little gtrinding the pipe fit right in, like it was ment to be.

now what color to pain them???? i was thinging gunmetal gray or go from one extreme to the other and pait'em neon green or mammoth mt. pink???

just reged up the the first 2 rails i made and put them together it looks really good like that. instead of weldin them together im just going to make something so they can saty like that and if a want to just sepseparate them, pull them apart.

whats the best type of matt people use for the summer/spring and where to fint it, is it that green astro stuff???

Build-A-Jib 101. Please. Love your work, but all of this should be posted there. Reason is so others will have the resource and not have to search SG for this later, unless you plan to baby sit this thread and keep bumping it for the next few years.

I would PM a Mod and have them move this thread to BAJ. This is great stuff for anyone trying to weld up metal rails. Seriously, the pics are great and you could add a "how to" post in it that does step by step.

i have tryed to join this bullshit buil-a-jib cult since the oct5 and like you said befor P.M. jwenz, i have sill yet to hear from him. if your not goin to help or you dont like the thread get the fuck out..

mr.huck im sorry about that coment.you have been nothoing but helpful to me and i have been trying to join the BAJ cult and constantly sending PMs with no replys back. when you replyed to the therad i just didnt want to here it any more and fliped. i would still like to join,i think i could be of some help with the all the pics iv been taking of welding rails and would like to see what others are doing as well. again im verry sorry and hope you except my apology.
