i am writing a paper on religious cults for my political science class, and the professor is a real stickler.

so i need help on some major cults, other than heavens gate, jonestown, scientology, and the helter skelter dude i think, not sure (ill research it, ha)

but if you guys could offer variious names, sources, sites, for once google has failed me....

Look into the fundamentalist church of jesus christ and the latter day saints- the real crazy mormons who are into polygamy and marrying their daughters.

A good source of info on this is Jon Krakauer's book 'Under the Banner of Heaven'. I personally visited some of the places he mentions to see if what he was saying about these mo-mos was true and it was pretty freaky- all living on welfare generated by huge families, 4k+ square foot houses out of shit building materials, bars on the upper windows so the misbehaving wife #3 can't escape, compounds with lots of CCTV surveillance, the whole nine yards.

One of their leaders, a Warren Jeffs, was recently arrested in TX if I remember correctly.

Wasn't there some big thing in the news a month or two back about some crazy polygamist cult?? If I could remember the name or the location I'd hook ya up, but all I know is I heard something about it.

i still like my idea, like have you ever read up on the illuminati. really interesting shit. Like you'll actually be enetertained by doing this project.
 
i know theyve already been said, but i think youll have a lot of luck with the Illuminati as well as the westboro baptist church. i know there is a lot of info on them, 'specially the westboro baptist- i learned about them last year in my current events class.
 
There's this crazy cult in either germany or austria that just got busted up in the last year...their thing is that they have children, then incarcerate them in the basement and slowly eat them. like they cut pieces off the kids and cook them bit by bit. it's super fucked up.

anyway i forgot what they're called BUT my girlfriend is a theology minor and she's fascinated by this shit, she'll remember who they are. she's at breakfast with some of her friends though so ill ask her when they get back.

Just make sure that whatever you do, you aren't referring to a religious sect. Sects and Cults are two different things that commonly get mixed up. Cults usually start independently but often take beliefs from another religion. Sects are subgroups of a religion that in some cases can sometimes be quite extreme. The Puritans would be a Sect as are Jehovah's Witnesses even though some like to refer to them as a cult.
 
hate on Catholics all you want but they dont believe any of that Genesis bull shit like most other christian domination's just watch religulous Bill Maher's movie.
