Need help buying a used iPhone

Everyone is getting the iPhone 5 and all that rubbish, so I thought since I want one and there's no way in hell my parents will buy me one, I should just buy one with my own money and activate it. I already have a data plan, texting plan, etc., so it should correspond with the iPhone

but back on topic, how much should I look to pay for a used 4 or 4s? Will I be able to find one for cheap and in good shape? Thank you and +k is gonna be given in copious amounts if you help me out! thanks
 
I got my 4s brand new on a 3 year contract for $180. Without a contract they were like $600. So a decent used one should be $200-$400 depending on condition
 
My dad is a cheapskate so I'm trying to avoid upgrading a contract or extending it. I could be sounding like a total fucking retard right now, I haven't dealt with phone plans before since I'm only 17. but I have to stay on his plan since, once again, I'm only 17.
 
before I got my 5 I sold my 4s for $360, you should be able to find a 16gb 4s for around $300 and prices go up from there. Not sure about prices for the 4 sorry
 
Also make sure whatever you buy is unlocked and compatible with your carrier, you can't just use any old iPhone on any carrier you choose, unfortunately it's not that simple
 
well, it's not going to be the initial cost of the phone, it will be the data charge per month. If you have an update for your contract..that would be the cheaper route, either way you're going to be paying the 15/30 extra dollars a month for a smart phone.
