This thread probably has been made a million times but i cant find what I'm looking for.

I have a Nikon D 5200 and I'm looking for a good lens for filming.

I want to try and keep it under $500

Thanks in advance for any help!

This.Meaning wide, close, night day, high DOP or shallow ? If you can answer all these question, we might be able to guide you. But for 500e you might check second hand.

For general skiing... tokina 11 to 16 is a good all around lense. But I mean thats for closer type filming situations so idk what you wanna film

Mostly park shots (rails) within 20 feet of the feature. some follow cams and some standing on the knuckle of jumps

This. At that distance either would work ( the fisheye would be easier) but it really depends on the effect you want to go for. Check them out online to see the comparison. the one suggested^^^ 11-16 is a great lens and would prob do the job.

Personally, I prefer lenses with slightly longer focal lengths, but that probably would not work for your requirements.

Hope this helps, and good luck finding what you want.

how is the 11-16 a good all around lens? it's literally the opposite, but that's irrelevant.

apart from what has already been suggested, i'd recommend looking into the nikon 16-85. you can probably find it for about $500 and it's extremely sharp and versatile. it's a little slower than the tamron 17-50, but i wouldn't worry about that at all for filming skiing. it also has a better range, far superior optics, good build quality, and a VR system that actually works. if you look up this lens you will see i'm not the only one raving about it
