don't get the axium binding. While very leightweight, it is not designed for what you intend on using it for. The axium binder is designed for beginner to intermidiate carving skiers. If you want a good binding, start looking at anything in the rossi axial line or look pivot line. Rossi makes scratch axial bindings too, if you are concerned about graphics.

Right on Scratch Crew ... good to see informed riders. The only thing I would add is this. Make sure the DIN setting covers your needs ... big/hard landings (despite fancy release gizmos) will probably need a higher DIN. Mostly for the reason that the spring wil be made of a stronger material not jut because of the higher setting. The other thing you need to be aware of is the chuck setting for the plate. Most binding and paltes nowadays are all integrated and different companies set the screw patterns differently so you have to buy their binding. Have a look, you might get lucky and be able to use another binding but if its a stock Head plate it probably fits Tyrolia's best.

thx for much inputs guyz

dont go with the axiam for freeriding....its designed to a middle-level type of skier....it will release pretty much at the same points in you din-settings, but it doesnt have the side-to-side release you would find in a rossi/look pivot binding. get those, thats what im on and best freeride binding in my opinion. you can get them in 8-10-12-14 din.

This all depends on your weight but I wouldn't go with anything that has a DIN setting lower than 12. I've seen too many guys in the park with 8's and 10's that have broken the binding or find that the binding is prematurely releasing on them every time they land. It's far better to spend the money and get a better binding.

Rossi Axial bindings are everything but light, personally I hated the extra weight mine had. I know the Salomon s912 ti bindings are light because I have them on my racing skis. Before my TMs got mounted I picked up the Look Pivot Jib binding and it was pretty light, and from what I heard a great binding.

so your jibs are lighter than your other pivots? How about compared to the 912's? What year were the older ones? I think some looks might have some ti in em now but look doesn't say much about their bindings and their site isn't up.

The rossi Axials were last years, I think, or the year before maybe. The s912ti and Jib binding are close, I couldn't really tell, but I'm guessing the s912ti are lighter. Although the Jib binding was surprising light, I don't think it really matters.

yea good point, when you get your boards mounted, they'll ask for all your info and generate a din off of that...stay with that, and as your skiing improves adjust by that....or if you get fat! dont crank your dins like everyone else does out there, they all think they are 'really big tough guys' with theyre dins cranked. they arent so tough when they have busted knees ankles and shins....

When it comes to picking a binding that will best suit your din range, find out what your din is going to be first (by the chart). Then buy a binding that has your din in the very middle of it's range. The springs in a binding will work most efficiently and will be the safest for you, if they are set in the middle of their range.
