I want to buy new skis so bad. I'm sure you all understand that feeling. I've been riding my current skis for 2 seasons, they're awesome skis but this past season i got in the park a lot more and started learning more tricks. I'm feeling more confident and eager to learn more but my shits are MAAAAD short. Its hard for me to justify dropping the cash on skis I only ride 3 months out of the year but I really want to. So i'm trying to decide if I should just stick it out for another season or say fuck it. What would you do?

short skis short dick. so it’s up to you, you want a short dick for another season or not?

what skis do you have, what size, what is your size, are you still growing, what do you like about them what don't you like about them? how much money do you have? what bindings do you currently have, and would you switch them to the new skis?

i'm def not the "buy another pair!" guy but depending on what you have and what you might get, you can keep new ones for a while. and park skis can be found for great deals in the spring and summer

currently on ARV 96's, 163cm :/, depending on who asks im 6 foot but im really 5'11. I love the ski, just starting to think i might prefer something more park dedicated that I can jib easier with, vishnus have caught my eye. I have money for new skis im just not an impulsive spender, so big purchases arent common for me. Im currently on look spx and fuck no I would not switch them, I broke 3 brakes this year landing switch.

This is the time of year to find some good deals on skis. Not saying you should buy a new pair of skis but, buy a new pair of skis.

^ from what this guy said this is the time of the year if you are going to. There are plenty of ways to find cheap(er) pairs of skis wether it be sales, facebook marketplace, etc. I've also seen that some park skis are actually getting pretty cheap, such as surface (I have never ridden them but they seem to be popping up at my home mtn a ton these days). Or if you think about it, get some super freakin durable skis and let them last til the end of time. I'm on a pair of skis from 2011 and yes, they probably need to be put away for good but they still slide rails well and are responsive in the air... so durability matters a ton.

But if you feel like you are dying for a pair of skis but they are expensive, just freakin treat yo' self. Get the skis that YOU want and just love your choice!

+ "and no i'm not still growing"

then yeah, getting a new pair is a good idea. i'm with you on not impulsively buying a new pair, but you can get a great pair for a good price this spring/summer and keep them for a long time. if you're serious at all about skiing then yeah those skis are really small on you at this point. and you can get some Look Pivots that will last forever (ideally on sale, they're not cheap) or for something cheaper and lighter but still great you can get Tyrolia Attack 13s for insanely good prices

as for which skis, that's for you to decide but lots of good options. e dollos are basically arv 96s that are tweaked a little to be more park focused, but you can branch out more than that too of course. among other ideas, googling site:newschoolers.com + some search terms can be great. there are tons of threads where people ask for and receive info regarding ski recommendations that are similar to what the OP has and knows. and/or make your own thread, ~"what skis are similar to arv 96 but ____," some nerd might tell you it's a repost but it's all luck of the draw who sees a thread and gives some info so i think it's often useful

will it be your main/only ski? if so, and you still will do "real skiing" (idk where you live or what you're into) then you might not want to lean too far into noodley park ski territory but you do you

I would look for a used pair cause if you only ride them for 3 months and just wanna get something longer thats a good idea imo

I live in the Midwest and I ski at a small hill. I like carving and doing runs but I’m starting to love park and the same 15 runs get boring so I stay in the park predominantly. Any good website recommendations for park skis other than evo

level 9 sports isn't as consistent as other sites but they often have great prices on what they do have (prob related to why they stock differently than the Evos etc)

corbetts in canada is a sick shop with great prices that get even better if you're using USD. worth checking out and Greg_K on here is or was affiliated with them and is one of the most helpful knowledgeable dudes on the site. i think he's a Blister Review guy (blister is super legit)

but i've had the best luck deciding on a ski or two and then keeping an eye out for them by googling often (under "shopping"). you can find great prices; just make sure a site is legit before you pull the trigger of course

From what I read I was going to suggest an ARV until I saw that’s what you’re on. These days there are SO many good options for a “park dedicated” ski that’ll also perform well around the mountain. I’m 6’ and ride a 189 Edollo, but I’ve also been a tall ski guy my whole life.

What do you like to ride with underfoot? Trying to stick around the 95 range?

I think that’s probably a good range to stick to, I don’t get powder days where I live obviously so no need to go higher. But it’s the only ski I’ve owned so idk

The edollo doesnt get made in a 189 anymore.

vishnu is coming out with 189s for next season next month for their presale.

i want to say if you buy wets on presale then they’re only $420.

get 189 wets no doubt!

thinking about checking it out, but 189 makes me nervous. Im still new to park and 163 is the longest ive skied.

It was my first season skiing in general and I progressed a bunch in the park, I started off with 185 blends which are 100 underfoot and I’m gonna go with 189 wides next season. I’m 6’1 though.

Wets are 90 underfoot and lightweight/soft. You definitely should atleast go 183. With their rocker they ski short tho so I think 189 would definitely be manageable too for you. Longer skis just straight up look more stylish

I have a strong feeling I’ll be able to handle 189 wides which are 106 underfoot.

You’re a little shorter than me and that’s why I think you could handle the 189 wets which are only 90 underfoot.

I believe on Vishnu’s site they recommend if you’re taller than 5’7 get 183s

189 is two inches taller than 183 and you’re 4 inches taller than 5’7.

get what I’m saying?

some very valid rationale here indeed my friend. Definitely something Ill consider, that just seems like a massive jump from 163

Dude shouldn’t be going anywhere near 189’s from 163’s. I’d say 180 would be the sweet spot for him.

I fell like dude would be crossing tips and looking like Bambi for a few months until he got used to the 189’s

Definitely get something longer. I'd recommend minimum 175, but probably 180-185 will be your sweet spot. Happy shredding dude!!

It was my first season skiing ever and my first pair were 185s. It was tricky learning to ski and not crossing, but that was only for like 3 days and I never had an issue past that. I hit down rails and spins/grabs on medium jumps and never felt like they were in the way.

sounds like the guy has already been skiing for however long. And the wet is a more narrow for today’s park ski and lightweight/less effective edge cuz of his rocker.

183 if he’s not growing would be totally fine. 189 would still be a decent option if he’s gonna grow or wants a little more stability on jumps.

Yeah it’s a big jump but he’ll be fine regardless and is tall enough to handle either.

Last thing I’ll add to this thread.

you can get whatever length ski you want dude obviously it’s your choice, but my advice to you is find something around 180 plus or minus a couple. All these guys saying make the jump to 189 are kinda missing the point I think. Yeah eventually you’ll get comfortable skiing a ski that long, but its probably going to take you a while to get comfortable with them. Maybe a couple days, weeks, or months, hell maybe you won’t ever get used to them at all.

just think about this though. The whole time you’re getting used to the 189’s (which you already seem to be nervous about) you won’t be focusing on tricks. You’ll be focusing on getting comfortable on your skis. Which means you won’t be comfortable hitting rails or jumps like you normally would, which means you won’t be progressing.

I’ll leave it right there.
