Need advice regarding a laptop

I am considering buying a Dell Studio 15 laptop. Since I'm not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to computers, I want to know if it is worth it.
Here are the specs :

- A 2010 Intel® Core™ i7-720QM Quad Core Processor
- 8GB of RAM
- A 500GB hard drive
- An ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5470, 1GB video card

I will be using this for just browsing the internet and gaming occasionally.
Thanks for any help!

That thing will be good for ~4 years. The first thing to become obsolete will def be the video card.

Don't expect to game at max on every game, but for everything else, it will tear it up.

i just ordered a dell studio 14 so kudos to you. but unless your a really avid gamer i wouldnt reccomend the i7. ive heard of lots of people getting overheating issues. i got the i5 and hope its plenty fast. also 8 gb of ram is pretty uneccesary. both of those options could be lowered and save you a couple huindred bucks just saying

I was about to give you 0/10 karma but you were already at 0.

To OP, that 8 gigs of ram is way too much. stay at 4 if all possible. the rest of the set up is good. the specs are that of a good gaming laptop so you'll do a bit more gaming than occasionally

oh? and nick i hate to say i told ya so but i did tell you so. having that many gb of ram is like living alone and owning a minivan to drive only yourself.

that thing could be overkill, but it won't give you many headaches. Well, besides running windows....

That's complete overkill. For web browsing and gaming, an i5 and 4gb of ram would be more than enough

just get it, havng more rams beta than havn less. and yeah the graphics card wil the first thing to be outdated, bt unless you want to play gta4 or games like that on full graphics youl b sweeet for the next few years, and get the best processor, thats 1 thing i regret not upgrading on mine

Yeah, personally if I was going to use it for gaming "occasionally" i would not go with something that aggressive. That being said, besides the price tag, i seriously doubt you will have any regrets or issues with a laptop that powerful. If you're a serious gamer though, go for it. It won't let you down

As others have said the 8 gigs of RAM is way to much, I doubt that any program you could run on that system would use even half of that amount. Go with 4 gigs, that's still a really solid amount but at least its not over kill, plus it will save you a lot of money. I'm not sure about the processor but from what people are saying it will be vary fast. The hard drive is pretty big, unless you are going to be downloading a bunch of big files (movies) then I suggest you downgrade that to 320 gigs. You can always buy an external hard drive with 200 gigs cheap. Also, the video card is good, don't expect to run Crisis and games like that on full specs though.

...and despite it's name, you wouldn't want that beast on your lap, unless you like fried legs for every meal.

i actually have that laptop and it handles everything you mentioned just fine

i recommend spending a little bit extra and buying the bigger battery though, after 4 months i'm still getting 7-8 hours a charge

i dont know specifically what kid it is, a 12 cell maybe?

it sticks out of the bottom of the laptop...

granted 7-8 isnt on high performance its on dell's power saver

just a heads up the dells that i've used (a couple of years ago) broke down a ton and do not last for a long time also in general they were slow. i think that they've gotten better but just giving you a heads up

nah man it runs a solid 8 or 9 well mine does anyway and to the dell comment i have had two dells and both of them are brutal i put windows 7 on one thinking it would help and it did absolutely nothing, hence why i went to mac
