need advice on car audio

I don't know all that much about car audio, but $700 for a 4x23W CD receiver seems way too much. If you are still on stock speakers, upgrade those first. You can get a decent enough 4x40W unit for $250.

All your paying for there is the display to put a few pretty pictures in your dash. you can get tons of decks with the same features for like half the price without the crazy display. And to the guy who said its a piece of shit cause its a 4x22W thats RMS, its a 4x50W peak which is what 90% of the deck on the market are. and the 3 sets of preamp outs are good to have if you plan of amping all your speakers, but I doubt you are

alright heres the deal

sony makes really pretty decks, but they are super shittay and way over priced.

if you were to ask me some of the best decks are panisonic or jvc.

always buy a new deck before you get new speakers, in this case sony speakers are quite good. if you got some cash invest in some rockfords. their dutty.

always put new speakers in both the font and back elsewise your new speakers will just drown out your old stock ones.

dont buy a amp unless you plan on buying a sub.

seward, the dont buy an amp without a sub is a stupid myth. having installed and bought over 60-70 odd audio systems for my friends, a majority with 4 channel amps, a few without. the difference between running your speakers off your head unit and running your speakers off an amp is not even comparable. the headunits rated watts out put means absolutely shit. whoever said that the head unit is only for display, design, functionality and output is right, the amp built in to the head unit should not even matter if you are going to spend that kind of money.

it's a nice looking deck but it's not worth it. all you are paying for is the tiny lcd screen with colors. i have play around with that deck and yea it's easy to navigate but for 700$ is not worth it. there are better decks with hella better price.

if you're getting an mp3 head unit get either kenwood or blaupunkt...they don't bust, they're not overrated, and at least in terms of kenwood, they're def leading the market in mp3 decoding and buffering technology...yes, there is more to decoding an mp3 than programming a microcontroller.

oh and even the cheapest 4 channel amp will probably make your mids and tweeters sound better than a even a really good deck.....decks are rated in peak power (my alpine says 60Wx4 but RMS is only 25 or so) and the amplifier components in decks are shoddy and shrunken down to fit in your dashboard

i deliver sandwiches from 5 pm til 3 am on friday and saturday night, plus i work full time at an internship that has an hour drive each way. some of us care about how our cars sound because we are in them a lot of the time.....anyone who buys a system just to look cool can run into a brick fucking wall for all i care.
