I just some new skis. I went to two different ski shops and they are telling me different things. One says that I need a full tune up (wax, some torque thing, and something with my edges) the other says I only need to get them waxed. Which one is right?

if there brand new skis there edges dont need to be sharpend but a wax is good cuz factory wax sucks, a torque test is for your bindings, and i beleve they do it when there mounted so if they were just mounted then theres no need. Just wax your skies yourself and save money.

brand new skis need a new ski tune. they wax them and actually detune your tips (and with twins your tails) so that the edge will not be sharp going up your tips and tails. if they are sharp then youll have a terrible time catching edges, or so ive heard.

that tip/tail detuning thing is not done any more due to those newfangled shaped skis.

yes it is...half the skis iv looked at even have it already pre done .. the edge is cut right at the corner all around the tip(s)

here it is from someone who techs

Brand new skis need to be waxed and the tips and tails should be detunned a bit with a stone to prevent you from catching an edge at the tip or tail which will throw you.

If tou are putting bindings on you need to have the release tested.

Either manually with a torque test or a binding test mashine.(they will need your boots for that)

that is all for new skis after you fuck them up u have to believe what they tell you because it is all judgment and one needs to see them to tell u what work it needs.

A tip for all you that ride your skis hard where there are rocks.

If you get a core shot that goes all the way through the base to the wood core or metal part stop stop stop skiing immediately and go get them fixed because if water gets in there it is near impossible to fix and will cost you a ton of cash.
