Need a run down on longboards

for sure. those might cost a little more though, but it's all about the smaller companies like KS and Legendary, over big companies for the cost v. value ratio.

ya dude, the two downsides to legendary is that its more cash, even for the wheels and trucks they sell, and they take a long time to make the boards because they are an all custom company. that being said, however, if your looking to support a smaller company and are willing to pay like 200 give or take, you can get as stiff or as felxy a board as you want, to go with all the shape, length, and color options to choose from. also the extra cash will buy you a stronger board because they make reinforced wood and bamboo which will bend instead of break (for the most part).
Sparknotes: more money will buy you exactly what your looking for, but ks will do you well if not. support small!

Sector nine are good so are neversummer boards, its really up to you.

If you want to bomb hills find one thats flexy and long enough wit some fat wheels for little bit of everything (which is what I should have thought about before buying) get one medium length kinda flexes but not too much for around town that you can bomb on too if you want. For a commuter board get a stiff one cause if you even go up slight hills wit it it'll pay off to be stiff so it doesn't soften your pushes

My opinion is to get a semi stiff one wit fatass wheels and use it for all around one stuff.

Maybe buy a complete and then customize it to what you want out of a board.. that's what I did..

Bought an Arbor Bamboo Blunt, got new wheels/bearings, moved the truck positions and angles, made it an ~inch drop deck.

Now it's a super stable carver that I can bomb hills on..

Arbor Bamboo Blunt, GullWing Charger 10's, Sector Nine Nineballs w/ Bones Swiss... sooo fun.

i'm looking at kracked skull, cuz they're a good deal, but i'm not sure what to go with for wheels. i'm getting a 42 scimitar. also, is a quartz grip worth it?

i have the same board and was planning on doing the same thing, what did you use to drill, and did you counter sink the hardware?

honestly, don't do the quartz grip, its shitty and will come off in a week, just buy cheap grip tape at your local skate shop
