Need a new mountain bike

I search barred but couldn't find any threads worth reposting on and digging up.

Here is my predicament

I taught mtb at a summer camp last year on a 2000 specialized hard rock. it's 12 years old now, and I rode the absolute shit out of it. I need a new bike. The terrain is fire roads, two-track roads, and some (not a lot) trails. No singletrack. The riding sucks but money for mountain biking is fine by me. I guess the bike suited for the terrain would be a cross country bike or something, not sure. Could I get any money at all out of the hard rock?

Help me pick out a cheap bike suited for the terrain. Plus k to all replies that are stupid. thanks for reading

A 12 year old bike isn't gunna be worth shit especially since it sounds like you beat it up so much, but I would absolutely put it on Craig's list but you're probably gunna get $100 for it tops. It may be perfect for someone, you never know.

Hardtail. There are a lot of big hills with things to pedal over and you gotta stay seating to make it up pretty much. Full sus would make that a problem.

sparknotes i like hardtails

Check out the Ginat Revel 1. Its a sick bike and really cheap ($500-600). I rode in moab UT alll summer and the bike preforms just as good if not better than my friends bikes which are $1000 or above. Its also really light weight and the only down side is the suntour fork it comes with is works great but there is no info on how to service the fork on suntours website.

I don't know much in this field, but look on pinkbike.com/buysell. Go into your region, and look what they have to offer.

around 500 usd preferably. Able to fluctuate either direction but not much, or so i'd like.

@orangecrush23 thank you so much for the suggestion, seems like a very solid bike, will definitely check it out. What year model do you have?

@KayngBayng thanks for the suggestion, i forgot about that website!

ive got a cannondale f5 and its a nice hardtail. i wish i had spend the extra 50 dollars or so for the f4 to get nicer components, but it still gets the job done and is fun to ride. only ran me about 800 dollars.

To myself personally, it just gives off a very scrubbish feel. Plus showing off my sick steed to some campers would be a plus.

I'm going to suggest a hard tail 29er. Up to you on the brand. Oh and my dad own a bike that he got for free because a bike store messed up several assemblies for his bikes and they bascically told him to pick any bike of the shelf so he picked the most expensive bike they had. It's a nishiki. They don't make them anymore and it's 20 years old and it's worth 1000 bucks today.
