ok so im going to be living in Vail for 10 months for school. and i need a laptop, but the school wont take macs. i am going to be using it a lot like every day, i need a light very portable one. that will be good for school work, and some video editing. so i was thinking a bout getting a dell, if anyone uses dells, are they good? but im also looking for one around $900-1000. if you have any suggestions please let me no.

i just got the dell inspiron 1501 and it blows dont get it

go with a hp or toshiba they work the best along with sony,

why wont the school take macs

because its a ski academy, if your comp breaks down down there the staff can fixs like anything but a mac. kind of wierd.

you make a good point, i think they ment like fixing programs or something, i bet they will let me.

You won't find a basic new MacBook in your budget range let alone one with power for video editing.

AS for Dell, I have an E1705 that has been flawless. It came with XP and got a free upgrade to Vista.

I tried Vista for a couple months and switched back to XP. The benefits of Vista don't make up for the amount of performance it sucks up.

i got a macbook pro with bootcamp and windows and it works good. only use windows for 1 program and used to use it for counterstrike. works good, although windows pisses me off every time i use it now.

yeah...when i get enough money im gonna get one of those and im gonna get 4gb of ram from a different site and install it its gonna be sick...i would suggest this computer or a dell inspiron 1720 but you seem like you want a mac now...

i've always had great luck with my dell computers, regardless of what everyone says about them. you don't find a new mac laptop for 900-1000 bucks i bet, especially a good one. if you went with a dell. the small xps laptop might be a good choice.

The point was he won't find a Basic Mac in his price range excluding tax, applecare and any other extras.

I like Macs, but was also helping him with the guidelines provided.

ya, i just got a Dell 1520 with Vista, 2gb ram (definitely the minimum for running Vista), 120gb hard drive, 256mb NVIDIA GeForce graphics card, 15" screen. cost $1500, sick laptop. i'm thinking you could get to around $1000 by choosing a 14" screen, cheaper graphics card and no other extras that i got. maybe a smaller hard drive too, and just get an external for all your footage.

Apple.com also has a bunch of refurbs, but it will still push the price above your range unless you go with an older model.

Refubs are at the bottum left of the store.

Just don't forget to get AppleCare protection.

when you download bootcamp does it come with word? cause im going to be using it for papers and shit.

im screwed, since im probably getting a mac, my ipod is already formated to a windows so how do i get 2000 songs onto the mac?

how do i make it so my ipod wont sync automaticlly cause the windows comp i used crashed so i hope it doesnt have to be done on the computer.
