again. people arent poor because they are morons. they are poor because of uncontrollable circumstances. things like jobs being outsourced (something obama would help prevent)

well i read none of the thread, but i wanted to say that although I am an obama supporter, you brought up the very same contradictions that I noticed during his speech, very thought provoking ax.
 
1st off, its so easy to sit here and argue our situation and not understand the whole facts. i hate jobs being outsourced but thats just reality and it will take a long time to fix that problem. simple matter is, companies do not want to outsource labor and production period. we did this to ourselves and its our fault as consumers.

its really quite interesting to study the aspects of our culture and our economy.

2nd. id love to see how obama is going to get jobs back in this country. he would have to take away free trade, or tax the shit out of products coming into this country (which im sure he does cuz he will tax everything else).

3rd. uncontrollable circumstances. lets see, some are, some are not. nobody is forced to spend the money that this country has fallen into.

obama is gonna get jobs back in this country by giving tax breaks to companies that keep production in the us.

who is going to pay the taxes under Obama?

if he is going to give tax breaks to company's who keep jobs here, how much is he going to have to raise taxes on the rest of working america to cover for these tax breaks?

 
i know you are a smart, educated kid so im not going to call names or any childish thing like that. taxes are not the only reason companies outsource labor and production. have you ever thought of the other reasons why companies outsource labor?

lets see... um, high healthcare costs for workers, higher minimum wages, just to name a couple. its very expensive to do business in this country. not all businesses are evil. mabey if you were in business and can actually talk to theses companies and see them everyday you would understand their position and where they are coming from.

so dont sit there and blame companies for their decisions. for most its either outsource or close your doors, and you still need your furniture, food, tvs, clothes, shoes, and the several thousands of products we use everyday that are outsourced.

labor is the first large scale cut back a company will do to cut costs.
 
yeah sorry im tired. thats pretty to say as a presumably middle class (at minimum) skier. clearly not economically struggling

I'm not about to go tell you about my personal life, but I will tell you that I cannot afford to ski right now and it's not because of dumb choices.
 
we can all agree that we are super addicted to our sport, i know i am. everybody hast to have an escape route, smoking, drinking, golf, hunting... etc. ours just happens to be skiing.
 
this is a good point.... you dont need money to ski.....

go look at that ski bum out in Breck that gets 100+ days of skiing... i seriously doubt he even makes enough money to even pay taxes... but when you love something(i love skiing) you can make sacrifices to support your love.

 
yes. and its a choice. skiing is one of the most expensive things you could do in terms of recreation
 
I really disagree. Obama and Biden are much more highly qualified than Palin and Mccain as far as debating goes. Obama and Biden's educations alone are superior to Palin and mccain

education is one of the greatest things anyone can do to better them self..

but education should not be the "be all, end all" of a person, its what you do with the education...

i know janitors with 4 year degree's, and at the same time, i know Board members who graduated HS and went right into the working world...

great point.

education is one of the greatest things a person can do to better themselves. however you do need experience IMO. its like my college accounting professor. he went to college, and started teaching from then on. he is 70 this year. he has been in school his entire life, always learning. he is one of the smartest ppl i know and yet is out of touch with the real world. you need to balance education and experience.
 
The problem with our economy is the Clinton administration supercharged our economy so much that it was too much which was going to lead to a recession because it was better than it should of been. Bush administration was there to see it go down and possibly impact it a little

We could have had offshore oil this summer if ten years ago Clinton didn't veto the bill for offshore drilling. that would have helped significantly this summer with gas prices going so high.

 
i understand, that's why i made sure to use the word 'alone,' because it will take a lot to convince me that palin's degree in journalism from UI and McCain's 5th from last class rank at the US Naval Academy outweighs Obama's Magna Cum Laude law degree from Harvard and Biden's degree in law from syracuse. I really think that alone could predict the coming debates. And I think anyone could agree that Biden and Obama's degrees are not the only thing of merit to them
 
Well when thousands of people die at home people tend to freak when the concrete hits the dirt. Then the Cool Whip on top - war. Then the cherry - bidding for oil.
 
is gas expensive? yes. is it a problem? not necessarily. it could be worse (europe) and the prices are pushing people to find new methods.
 
i realize that but i feel like by drilling and lowering prices were just putting off the inevidable...
 
Wow, you are unbelievably dense. If you have unfettered internet access via a home computer, you do not understand what it is like to be poor. The people we're talking about, born into poverty, are in a totally different kind of situation than you are and it is nearly impossible to extricate oneself from that kind of situation. Some manage it, yes, but the vast majority of people living below the poverty line in the USA have always been there.
 
Ugh, please. I said I was struggling as in it's hard to find a good paying job especially as a young adult in college. I never said I was poor or living in poverty.
