NDC- Obama's Speech

My thoughts, I was typing them as I went so they are brief. I'm amazed at how contradictory he is on just about everything. Good speaker though...

"McCain's education plan doesn't help you pay for your daughter's college tuition." Why the fuck should the government pay for your college? I don't get it. he denied that we are a Nation of whiners. That was a stadium of whiners.

The DNC has repeatedly talked about "the promise of America" and how great we are because of it, and how it enabled Obama to live the life he is, yet everything they do shows that they have no belief in it, and instead need the government to step in and help them move up.

I can't wait for 10 years when Obama saves us from Middle Eastern oil.

He wants to provide everyone with education, yet the democratic party is strictly against vouchers, giving families the choice to put their kids in the schools they want. God forbid, can't disrupt the unions.

"I will take away services that we don't need, and strengthen those we do need" ? Is that so? You got my vote. Could he be more vague?

And his shout out to Ted Kennedy. Give me a break, the man has never made a cent in his life.

"We are a nation of JFK"; the president who said "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." First off, his universal health care plan is 'what your country can do for you', free government hand outs. Second, the quote is fundamentally wrong in my opinion. The government isn't serving us, its granting us freedoms to do what we want, and we shouldn't serve the government. Not exactly relating to his speech but important none the less. If more people saw government as a means to the end of freedom and choice, not as a means to success and money or as a giver of handouts, then this guy would

Common purpose bullshit. I can't remember the quote exactly, but something about how we need to find our common purpose or that we have lost our common purpose. Why should we all have a common purpose. Individuality. Freedom. I don't have to have the same goals as everyone else.

i am just going to copy paste this PM i just sent off to a few people...

tell me if you follow my thought process... ha

here is how i see it, all you ever see is the Dems bitching and moaning

about this and that, well their solution allways ends with, WE NEED

MORE OF YOUR MONEY so we can give it to people...

here is what i think, did you see Barack's stadium that he had all

decked out JUST FOR ONE SPEECH... i hate to think the millions of

dollars it took to put on that show, now instead of putting on a huge

party just so he can gloat... i would have a TON more respect for him,

and his party, if they did this.... we are going to hold the speech in

the football stadium, but instead of spending TONS OF MONEY on putting

on a good show for one man, we are going bare bones, and with all the

money we saved we are going to touch the lives of thousands by making

huge donations to homeless shelters...

wow that was long, sorry for the ramble with terrible grammar, i left

for college 15 hours ago (and just got home) and im a little tired.

haha

he deffinately bit off more than he could chew. "rid our dependance on ME oil in 10 years". he talks about the largest defecit then talks about lowering taxes for 90% of working families. THEN says he's going to invest $180 billion into altenative energies. where is this money coming from? and i dont like how he makes big business seem so bad. making too much money? what does he think the execs are wiping ther asses with the increased revenue. of course a portion goes to employees.

"I will take away services that we don't need, and strengthen those we

do need" ? Is that so? You got my vote. Could he be more vague?

this is a bit scary, YOU DONT KNOW WHO I AM, AND WHAT MY PLANS ARE BARACK, SO STOP BEING EVERYTHING TO EVERYONE!

who are you to say what is important to people and whats not important...

obama is claiming hard. not reliant on middle eastern oil in 10 years? i'd be pleasantly surprised if that's the case

he gave a good speech, well.... he gave tons of promises is what he did and at americas expense of tax dollars. IMO he bit off more than he can chew and talked about alot of programs he wants to instil or give money too.

i just got the shivers, i am watching PMSNBC and the black political analist just said "THIS IS THE GREATEST DAY IN AMERICAN HISTORY"

you are nucking futs lady!

barack droppin knowlege

mccains a fucking prick, i dont think a scumbag like him can bring this country in the direction it needs to go.

cool thing about Obama is that he probaly didnt write that, just put it in note form and used his madskills to make a huge inspirational speech.

Obama needs to put the meat and cheese in his speeches and explain how he is going to make this so called CHANGE

bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

your a moron. of course thats what they are doing.

i don't agree with you seeing as I am an Obama supporter...and volunteer for the campaign....but i think you bring up some good points and I fully respect your opinion...and I am also impressed that you took the time to watch him speak and thoughtfully counter him...

i also think that he needs to explain more about HOW is going to accomplish all these inspirational things...i have slight reservations becuase I think hes going to get into office and get a reality check that some of things he wants to accomplish will be a lot harder than he thinks they will be to achieve....having said this I think a lot of things he wants to do he will able to do becuase its a matter of shifting the focus away from big business and to where it needs to be.....I also think Obama will focus more on Afghanistan than mccain which is the right thing to do in my opinion since the country is going back to they way it was which was a place where the taliban could operate with nothing stopping them from taking over the country...

but the bottom line for me is that Id rather have Obama as president than McCain...and I think the fact that hes making people realize that we dont have to be satisfied with the state of washington and US politics and that as corny as it sounds change is nessisary....i dont know about you but it frustrates me more and more that McCain refuses to challenge Bush policies and i really dont want another four years of the gap between the rich and poor getting bigger, the national debt growing exponetially, and people dying for no reason in Iraq...

but i can't vote anyway...

Only low lifes looking for more hand outs, or the satisfaction of a minority president support Obama.

Yeah, a good solid 60+ million lowlifes support Obama. Tax cuts count as handouts. You're clearly a genius.

The speech was excellent and will be the best one we hear this year from any candidate, regardless of who McCain chooses as his running mate. I still think his 04 one was better though. He didn't re-use too much of it in this one. I enjoyed it. I'm pretty skeptical he's actually going to personally go through the federal budget line by line though. Might wanna have some staffers do that.

Well if you weren't blowing trillions of dollars a year overseas fucking up other countries...

that just foolish dude, every party spends millions of dollars around this time every election, you may think its just a show but it all counts towards more votes.

i gotta say im pretty disappointed with NS's intelligence on these things, theres so many stupid things in this thread i would like to point out but i don't feel like typing that much and im about to leave for vacation so im not.

You mean liberating and rebuilding. It's always nice to see someone from the grossly generous nation of Canada talking shit about our international humanitarian efforts. That being said, I don't want to fund either, fuck Iraq and their new bridges, and fuck the poor whores that want free health care. I should only pay taxes for defense, and infastructure (such as roads and governing bodies).

Whatever helps you sleep at night.

America can't think of itself being wrong, real pity...

I wonder.. would these political threads even exist on NS if they only allowed people who are registered to vote to post?

You really think we're spending 2 trillion dollars just blowing shit up and killing people? Life for Iraqis has and will continue to improve, no thanks to Canada.

naaaa it's just interesting periodically reading these politcal threads and noticing that the NS group is largerly in favor of obama. When the rest of the voting population is pretty evenly split.

A NS poll, "who would you vote for" would be good to confirm that.

I might go on to say that those who run the ski resorts that we all love are more than likely in favor of McCain/Republican, but that is just a huge guess on my part. Something I think about...

I'd say you are probably right, if Obama is elected and taxes the shit out of them, there will be no money for expansions like Blue Sky Basin or the giant lodge going up at Crested Butte.

On a totally different note... Could people responding just ignore the retarded comments posted to set people off, I know it is very difficult, and respond to people who are actually saying something productive. Ryno, you say how great of a speech it was, but what of the points I brought up? Do you agree, disagree? Any feedback? All you did was come in and bash a bunch of kids who posted to piss people off.

And this is what made me the most angry:
"What has also been lost is our sense of common purpose - our sense of higher purpose. And that's what we have to restore."

Common purpose bullshit. Why should we all have a common purpose. Individuality. Freedom. I don't have to have the same goals as everyone else.

I wouldn't consider myself or papa kids, or a bunch(probably a couple) ohh I'm sorry, yes! you make wonderful points about his speech, I agree!, or not... wait what's the NDC?

You might wanna read the thread again...no where in here did I say it was a great speech because I haven't even seen it (hence me asking in the thread for a link to footage of the speech)!

Then you aren't comments like 'lowlifes or minorities' however true it is, just brings on a bunch of stupid sarcastic remarks that go nowhere. I want to hear the democrats talk about the real issues and solutions, since Obama obviously cannot.

i know that. and i am saying IMO it would make just as much,IF NOT A BIGGER impact to have BArack say .... we didnt want fancy stadium so we with minimalist mind set and the excess was ALL donated to charity

Exactly.. There is way too much of that Pie in the sky garbage spewing from his speech writers. I want to know what he thinks. I think that getting the presidency is the most important motivation and ambition that he has. Nothing less, nothing more.

This is the problem with a two-party system... neither candidate is all that appealing. Even in the Clinton elections, it took until after his two terms for people to realize "Oh shit, that guy actually was a really good president". It's always the lesser of two evils, and unfortunately McCain is the bigger evil right now.

And then the dems combat with, "but we doo need a common sense of higher purpose". i gotta ask ya, what the hell is a higher purpose?

He wants us to all make more, so we can be taxed more, so that there is more money for special interests. Thats my read. :P

Did anyone watch the movie about Obama before hand? Where his mom would wake him up at 4:30 every morning to help him work on his studies when he was 6,7 and 8. Haha, what the hell kind of studies do you have at age 6?

You're right. Complaining about basic needs like healthcare is so petty when rich people can't afford a 4th house.

What was I thinking...CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME...keep thinking thats better for your country...

Obama's speech was very good, he's an excellent speaker. It will be interesting to watch the Republican convention next week and see how Mccain and that girl respond. I like Obama because even though his ideas may seem far fetched and costly, they are something different. And with the right planning and policy then perhaps Obama's ideas could be less expensive and more realilistic.

At least with Obama, he's talking about something completely different and new, I'm sick of todays economy, its shit. I don't want four more years of what we have now. We need new technology and energy sources to boost our economy up again like in the 90's when computers were popular, took over the economy and created jobs and made people money.

Great, Mccain wants to drill off shores. Well, by the time we get the projects approved, build the pipelines, build the off shore oil rigs and start using the oil it will be 10 years from now, and countries like china will have found new energy sources and made new gasoline free vehicles and oil will me such a minor part of our economy, it wont even be worth the cost of getting it.

Anyways, I cant wait for the debates, Joe Biden and Obama are going to rip McCain and the girl apart. !!

That is the exact same garbage they fed me in the 1970's EXACT SAME.

No alternative fuel will ever take the place of oil until it is cheaper

to do so. SIMPLE. It's admirable to have these dreams and ideas, its

a hell of lot smarter to have a foot in reality.

Seriously...seriously...I cant believe you would come out and even say that...Obama can give a great speech but fucking anyone on NS could beat him in a debate.. And Palin is known to not take any shit... Therefore Obama and Biden are litearally going to get destroyed in the debates

The weight of the ignorance in this thread is crushing.

Static:

"You really think we're spending 2 trillion dollars just blowing shit up and killing people? Life for Iraqis has and will continue to improve, no thanks to Canada."

You are incredibly dense. Life has not "improved" for Iraqis. Quality of living standards became suddenly worse after the country's infrastructure collapsed and half of the country was left in ruins during the invasion. It's gradually approaching livable after 5 years. You blew the place up and killed a whole bunch of people, and now slowly, Iraq is rebuilding. This is like knocking down someone's house and saying "what a good thing we did for you, look how nicely your new house is coming along."

By the way, no thanks to Canada? Because of your president's complete and utter stupidity in miring your country in a pointless war in Iraq, Canada has been in charge of operations in Afghanistan for the last couple of years, which is where US troops should have been all along. Your party fucked up. Big time. You don't get 4 more years to continue that trend.

Everybody talking about taxes... do you make less than $300,000.00 in a year? If so, John McCain will tax you MORE than Barack Obama. Read that again.

Now... ax murderer, you're angry because Barack talks about a common purpose? Here is what he means, in his own words, and I`ve posted this before, but apparently no one actually reads.

"... Alongside our famous individualism, there’s another ingredient in the American saga, a belief that we’re all connected as one people. If there is a child on the south side of Chicago who can’t read, that matters to me, even if it’s not my child. If there is a senior citizen somewhere who can’t pay for their prescription drugs, and having to choose between medicine and the rent, that makes my life poorer, even if it’s not my grandparent. If there’s an Arab American family being rounded up without benefit of an attorney or due process, that threatens my civil liberties.

It is that fundamental belief: I am my brother’s keeper. I am my sister’s keeper that makes this country work. It’s what allows us to pursue our individual dreams and yet still come together as one American family.

E pluribus unum: "Out of many, one."

The shared goal you should have is the betterment of the country for all of its citizens. If you're not on board with that, you're a selfish twat and, in my opinion, a pretty poor excuse for a human being.

Rob:

"No alternative fuel will ever take the place of oil until it is cheaper to do so. SIMPLE. It's admirable to have these dreams and ideas, its a hell of lot smarter to have a foot in reality."

Then practice what you preach and recognize that drilling will take 5+ years to have any effect on the price of oil, and when it does, it will affect that price minimally. The answer is new energy sources, but since technology hasn't reached the point where they're viable, a two-step process: 1. Stop gap measures. Natural gas, clean coal, nuclear. 2. Pour lots and lots of money into developing the aforementioned technology so we get to a point where it WILL be a substitute for oil (which has the added bonus of creating a bunch of jobs). All you seem to want to do is sit around whining about how solar cells are too expensive to heat your home and gas prices just keep going up... where's your fucking solution?

I mean how much does everyone MAKE in this thread who's voting republican? You can't ALL be rich assholes. I doubt even Rob is in a tax bracket that would see him get a better deal from McCain than Obama. So why are you all arguing against your interests? Stubborn, or just plain dumb?
