im not narrow minded, but i am religious, open to any other concepts, open to the possibility of life on other planets etc. I just know how long it has taken us to become this smart and using that frame of reference assume that it would take just as long for any other life to grow this intelligent. we also know that the probabilty of ife is very low because it is so fragile, and its needs are very specific. there is no other planet in our solar system that can support it, and very few solar systems exist in our galaxie that we think could even support life. the only things that really eveolve fast are single celled and asexual, nothing that could compare to our intelligence so based on that it would probably take other intelligent life just as long to evolve

And how does that prove im narrow minded, i believe that god caused the big bang and designed the "physics engin" if you will thaty we live in, and everything in the bible is simply metaphor, but we as humans need this in order to be able to understand.

whose to say that life on earth didnt evolve exceptionally slowly as compared to the possible evolution of life elsewhere in the universe. We have had many disasters in the course of life history(permian extinction etc) that killed off the majority of life on earth, thus hindering evolution.

As well, if another life form developed at more or less the same rate as use, but got to our current intelligence 10,000 years ago think how msmart they are now. I mean we were using sticks 10k years ago, and now we have spaceflight, computers, and nukes. and in the 3.5 billion years that life has been on earth 10k years is such a small amount of time that it is not unreasonable to assume that another life form could evolve at a similar rate, yet still end up 10k years more or less advanced than us.

 
you men the Precambrian extinction? and thank you for coming here with a valid standpoint. yes 10,000 has seen my advances in technology, and knowlege, but not evolution, we are basically the same species we were back then, and we were just as smart, the pyramids were built back then. we have been smart for a long time but there is a reason that we have not made such advances in technology untill now, and that because we now have the internet and much faster ways of transferring knowlege, i agree with you that their intlligence could have advanced quicker. so maybe for that reason they are smarter than us. and the possibility of having a huge cataclysmic disaster is just as possible anywhere else in the universe as here.
 
actually if we didnt have events like this evolution would have taken place much slower, if the earth remained the same then nothing would be prompted to evolve and evolution would take much longer

the issue with your argument is that you believe that humans were always meant to be the dominant life form on earth (as your religon says).

but what if the dinosaurs were 10 million years away from gaining human like intelligence when the meteor hit? then a reptilian species could have been the dominant life form, and would be 55 million years more advanced both physically (through evolution) as well as technologically.

Other planets could have been protected from such disasters, or the effects could have been much less, so the evolution of life there wouldnt have had the setbacks.

And because of how large the universe is, it would be silly to think that we are the most advanced species.

 
i havent even told you my religion, only that i belive god created the big bang and the "physics engin" that we live in. i belive in evolution, and that whatever is best suited to the environment at the time will be dominant, like us right now.
 
so your saying that you agree that it would be silly, with all the other inhabitable planets in our infinite universe, to think that we are the dominant species in the universe.

so if an alien race did infact make contact, it would be more intelligent.

also, if an alien race did make contact with us, it would be safe to assume that they are smarter, as they saw us firstt, and traveled her...something humans havnt been able to do.

no i mean things that research has been done on like the age of the universe, the earth, and life. And all of our research has shown so far that there is no life other than us. that kind of fact. not the kind of fact the happens when your mom drops you on your head and suddenly aliens are watching the earth and are 5million times more advanced than us.
 
no scientist in the world will tell that there is no other life in the universe but humans. we hrdly know anything about our own solar system let alone the galaxy, let alone the universe.

well you're basing your argument on your whole lifes observation, but don't have another sentient being to compare with to validate your argument, so you can't say for sure. and bukakakaka is basing his on an assumption with theoretical beings that have not been totally proven, so he can't say for sure either. its not really an argument, its more like trying to say other people beliefs are wrong and this is why mine are better. the whole argument is stupid if you ask me.
 
but you cant show me one shred of evidence that shows me that it does exist, so i have more evidence than you do. Name me 5 planets that even have as much water as ours does then, that have an atmosphere, that could support life. have no proof that there is even one similar to ours? thought that too.
