Anyone else heard about this? I guess there is supposed to be like a national protest for students. Everyone walks out of school at 12 or 1, I forget though, I just heard about it briefly.

im all for expressing your opinion. But you know what. Walking out of school aint gonna do jack shit. There are far moer productive ways to protest war that might even make people stop and think about it.

Im sure that there will be kids everywhere that are gonna leave claiming that they are in protest but you can really just count on them to use it as a bad excuse to leave

actually it's the biggest way for students to make an impact... if everyone did it.. that would send one fucking message that wouldn't be sent otherwise

I'll do it just to get out of school, I still think we must make sure that Iraq is making any nukes that any Joe al-Shiite Muslim can use against us.

There have been a few national walk-outs in schools since this whole Iraq business started... You have to be careful in high school though, because they all have rules that allow student demonstration as long as it 'doesn't interrupt the learning process.' And, quite obviously, walking out interrupts the learning process, for you anyway. If you get enough people behind it then they can't suspend half of the students, but if it's only a few of you then be careful, because the administration will come down hard on your ass.

Some other, non-walkout ideas are to have a die-in (if done well, this hits hard)... at a certain time during the school day, have as many people as possible keel over and 'die'... hopefully wearing a sign saying something like 'how many civilians like me will die in this war?' Even if you don't get everyone to do it, imagine the effect of, say, 50-75 students strewn about the hallways and classrooms for 5 minutes.

A less controversial alternative, and one that they can't expell you for, is to have a 'stand-up' for peace at a certain time; get everyone to stand up from 12 to 12:15 or something like that, to show their support for peace. You're remaining in your classroom and not disturbing your or anyone else's educational process... the Supreme Court will stand up for you on this one (no pun intended).

im not a big hippie fan, so, be pissed at me if you want, but ya, war sucks, i understand ok, but what are we going to do, sit on our ass and watch terrorists kill our own counrtyman, and those from other countries? may as well send them a little message back, and maybe they will decide to not screw with us anymore. this wasnt meant to be a big ALL AMERICAN post. but theres no need to skip school for that, war is going to happen, and i dont care how many people you fight it with, until you know those leaders off, your screwed! if anyone can tell me how to do that, let me know

I think one of the big problems is that the anti-war protest have become the 'cool' thing to do, and so many students just go along with the norm that they do not question whether or not we really should take action against Iraq, they just shut there mouths and grab a stupid no war sign. And become a mindless drone chanting stupid and false slogans. Now wether or not we should is still debatible. I think people do not understand what we will really do in Iraq, even I don't.

 
I agree with Ski-Hobo... its become the 'cool' thing to do. Its no longer meaningful. And that sucks.

Phrosty, that right is protected by the U.S. Constitution, a document that peace protesters are trying to protect, just like everyone else.

May I ask you this: WHO THE FUCK CARES WHAT IS COOL, AND WHAT IS NOT? Who are you to say, 'Oh, everyone is just in the peace movement because it's the 'cool' thing to do... so I'm not going to do that because I have to be different. Yeah, bring on the war!' Alot of kids dont understand exactly WHY we are going to war. We arent going to war because we are afraid that saddam is going to bomb us. HA no he wouldnt do that. But he has nuclear weapons that he can sell to terrorists that happen to have a thing for oh say flying airplanes into buildings and perform terror attacks in the most hated country in the world. Its the threat that he has to give them to anyone who wants them that scares me. Iraq is like a nuclear/chemical wal-mart for all these terror organizations. We need to get rid of that...its been 7 years, with enough time and warnings..and its enough. Its time for war.

I hate ppl who have aimless anti-war protests..most people who are against it dont know everything or the true facts about the reasons to go to war. No one wants to go to war, but war is necessary and its something that happens when a country is threatened at the level we are.. we need to get rid of that threat.

Nobody has brought even a single SHRED of decent evidence that Iraq has a single nuclear weapon(and they've NEVER had any, in case you didn't know), and 'proof' of its chemical/biological weapons is dubious at best. Just thought you might want to know, so that you realize that Iraq isn't a reason for you living in fear.

Ski-hobo: Iraq has chemical weapons... the nuclear situation is debatable. However, WILL THESE WEAPONS BE USED AGAINS THE UNITED STATES? No. Has Iraq ever attacked the United States? No. Has Iraq been voicing threatening rhetoric in recent months, prompting a US response? No. If these weapons were ever to be used, they would be used against Iran... and hell, that would make the U.S. government right happy. We gave them a lot of their chemical capabilities in the first place, anyway.

Pakistan and India are both PROVEN to have nuclear weapons. Pakistan is a volatile nation full of Islamic militants, and ruled by a military dictator. They constantly threaten each other with nuclear attacks, and fight battles every month in Kashmir. Which is more dangerous, Iraq or Pakistan?

North Korea has been blatantly vocal of late about its nuclear program, and its disregard of US and UN policies. SO WHERE THE FUCK IS THE INVASION OF NORTH KOREA??? NK in recent months has proven itself to be an enormously bigger threat than Iraq... and yet we hope to pass that off with diplomacy. Why? Because this war isn't about stopping terrorism.

While on that subject, have I mentioned before that any U.S.-waged Middle Eastern war will only further the cause of terrorism? Hooray!

And finally, on the subject of living in fear, let me say this: I don't live in fear of Saddam Hussein and his VX gas. I live in fear of John Ashcroft and Donald Rumsfeld.

Do you have any evidence of that being even a remote possibility? no you don't...

Iraq has no plutonium. NONE.

Its chemical/biological weapons systems were killed during the first war and the subsequent UN inspections, and anything they have left is most likely super minimal.

I don't know what to tell you, and I'm not going to 'argue' this anymore. It's pointless. But I REALLY wonder where you get your information, because it doesn't like you're getting the full story.
