So most states or areas within states have certain chains of grocery stores that are common and most people go to. I find it interesting to hear the names and whatnot.

So I'll start if off with the most common ones I see in California are Safeway, Vons, and Raleys.

im all about stew Leonard's ... but thats really limited to ny/ct area. Otherwise its all about the a and p

hahaha the way they spell it is hilarious.

My mom and dad go to whole foods and spend time with hipsters that pay too much for groceries.
I go to wherever is closest that has good deals on cereal, chips, tea, and beer. Usually king soops.

The big ones here are Save on foods, Safway, Thriftys and Fairway market.

The only ones I try to shop at are the later two because at least they are local chains. There are a few other local places I prefer to the chains though!

NY (Catskill area): Hannford, Price Chopper, some Stop n Shops. Adam's Fairacre Farms is a nice local one.

From LI all I can remember is King Kullen. I get all nostalgic when I see one.

Columbus, OH - Kroger, Giant Eagle, and Meijer.

Bend, OR - I always hit up Safeway, although there was a cheaper one that I can't remember the name of that I did my nickel and dime shopping at.

Of course, Im sure at this stage Whole Foods/(formerly Wild Oats) and Trader Joes are national, as I have seen them in many different locations in the US. I have watched that History Channel special on grocery stores a thousand times, I feel like I remember them saying that many separate chains of Grocery store were owned by the same parent company. Food selling is a fascinating thing.

In my hometown of West Hartford, CT, there was stop and shop and a couple others that I forgot. Dan, you remember the Adam's behind Marshalls that closed like ten years ago? Good times, thats the only place we used to shop when I was little.

The safeway chain is the largest of all grocery stores in north america. They go under a few names but I know that ralphs also operates under safeway.

Near me is Albertsons, Safeway, Whole Foods, and we got a wal mart coming in

Hahaha i work at Piggly Wiggly.

In Canada we have Weston, who owns Atlantic Superstore which in Newfoundland is called Dominion. Also Sobeys, and in Newfoundland there is a chain called Coleman's which has an English section and a purity products aisle.

Duluth is kinda different as far as grocery stores go. There's a local family that owns almost every grocery store in town, and they are called Super 1, and we also have a cub foods, and our walmart now has a grocery store.
