NASA Study Concludes That We're All Boned

Update: NASA has issued a clarification about its role in the study, saying that while the study relies on NASA research tools developed for another project, it did not directly solicit, direct, or review Motesharrei's paper. "As is the case with all independent research, the views and conclusions in the paper are those of the authors alone. NASA does not endorse the paper or its conclusions."

Also, inb4 hunger games.

You know that a website is trustworthy when "something else I might be interested in" is... A quick guide to identifying someones sexual orentation by appearance alone.

I attend a major research high school, and I just finished a study concluding that OP is an idiot. Look for the article in Scientific American.

for those of you bitching about the site i used to share the gist of Motesharrei's study:

https://www.google.com/search?q=Safa+Motesharrei&rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS503US504&oq=Safa+Motesharrei&aqs=chrome..69i57j0l2.1292j0j4&sourceid=chrome&espv=210&es_sm=91&ie=UTF-8

there ya go. read about this dude's study on whatever website you decide is credible.

while i dont agree with his assessment we only have a 'couple decades' left (at least i sure as shit hope not cause thatd be a major boner killer) it doesnt take a math genius using NASA technology to realize taht more people+less resources=prolly not gonna end well. just look at the water situation on the indian sub continent (specifically whats going on is kashmir). that shit aint good bra

not surprising, populations are too great, resources to small and the wealthy are the cause. Nothing new, sounds like a first world problem if you ask me

lol you guys will believe anything that is on the internet.

His post was about credibility and had nothing to do with water shortages in any way you imbecile.

Christ dude, I will literally pay for your vasectomy. Please, for the good of the world.

omg you guys are butthurt.

so we arent using more resources than we have? we are putting more species at extinction just because we can?

uhuhuhuhuh this source isnt credible, we are actually doing pretty well.

i hate this right wing nutjob mentality so much that puts job security and short-term economical upswing before long-term sustainability.

even if you think that solar energy is a left wing horseshit thingy, wouldnt you expect that its intelligent to work towards a point where we only need renewable energy?

every country can use some variant. solar energy might be more efficient in germany than in the US, i gotta admit that as an avid FOX news fan. but there are all sorts of water power plants, solar energy, wind.

BY DEFINITION, OUR CIVILIZATION WILL GO DOWN IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO SHIFT 100% TOWARDS RENEWABLE RESOURCES. THATS SIMPLE LOGIC.

Every generation thinks they are the last one. There have been so many of these "we are all going to die" studies that they are a bit like a boy calling wolf now

Even though this is total bullshit, im just saying its all the more incentive to get rich.

give_a_fuck.gif

I'll be dead by then sooo

the human species is doomed due to space and resource use, regardless. therefore i say we redirect all funding from every global research effort towards sustainability and focus it on creating photosynthesizing human beings. it is the only way.

To me it doesn't sound like the end of the world it sounds like the beginning of another age of revolution not unlike the one in 1848. A huge amount of people see wealth inequality, use of fossil fuels, and corporate owned politicians as a problem. Maybe people will ffinally act.“A city's only ever three hot meals away from anarchy.” -Alastair Reynolds
