So Nasa is planning to bomb the moon as an experiment.

"The unmanned Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite mission (LCROSS) will fire a Centaur rocket into the surface at twice the speed of a bullet."

Dont know what gives them the authority to go blowin shit up in space. Even if its only the moon. Nasa doesnt fucking own it. Is it really necessary?

dont know if anyones heard more on this.

 
they've been talking about shooting stuff deep into the moon for 10 years now, to search for more resources we can consume.

well yeah it's a big rock but nobody really knows exactly what minerals are under the surface of it. and you know us humans, we gotta take it if it's there.
 
nasa believes that the outside crust is basically just rock, but also that there may be some sort of weird new metal or something below the layer of rock
 
no, it has pretty similar geological characteristics to the earth. If we can date the moon then we can better date the earth. Also know what makes up the moon will help us know more about the creation of the moon and solar system
 
Why searching for the age of the earth when we know that the Creation was about 5-7000 years ago according to recent studies on the BIBLE ?

Actually Nasa's experiment seems pretty legit and they'll probably find out new stuff that is good for the scientific society.
 
Blowing stuff up in space is one of the coolest things a man can do...i can't blame them for doing it....
 
it's not about crazy metals, or how the solar system was made, it's about h2o

our apollo missions brought back moon rock with water, but it was thought that there was contamination back on earth, so they dismissed the findings. Just recently, india sent a probe to the moon that said there was water there, now we're following up on that. if there is, nasa wants to put a permanent dance club on the moon.
 
im pretty sure that nasa wouldn't just be like " oh lets bomb the moon for no reason and waste millions of dollars cuz its fun!"
 
What do you mean "authority to blow shit up in space"? You wouldn't notice if they sent a nuclear bomb into the surface, who cares. Stop acting like this is going to affect your day to day life.
 
The US didn't own japan, iraq, afganistan, etc but they still had no problem blowing them up...why would the moon be any different?
 
Well you would with a nuclear bomb cause it has the potential to probably blow up the moon with how strong they are nowadays or at least seriously impact it...

Anyway, I think it is a kinda cool idea. They are hardly going to be doing that much damage, just blowing a small crater to get further down and inspect below the surface. Could give some insight on the forming of the Moon or if it was anything other than a rock. Should be a pretty interesting experiment.

I think it is a pretty neat idea. I was really interested last year when they were starting to reopen the moon program with possible thoughts to go back to the moon. The idea to be able to get to mars by launching from the moon was a neat idea to read about.

people also don't seem to realize that the moon gets hit by shit all the time, just not by us. Ever looked at it? See those craters? You don't think those just pop out of the ground, do you?
 
i feel like it would be incredibly complex/interesting to blow something up with gravity issues...
why are you even questioning the ethics behind seeing what happens when a bomb explodes on the moon, as opposed to say in a foreign country?

I love how you think they just wanna see what happens when we detonate a bomb on the moon. There's this whole branch of science called PHYSICS that can tell us what will happen, that's not why we're doing it.

i have the inside word that macdawg productions built a new chads gap on the moon! and ski patrol thinks its way too dangerous....

silly noob astronots from other countries were gonna go shoot film on it and america cant have that. ski patrol decided to blow that shit up so noone breaks there ankles.

personaly i think its for the better because if tanner was to break his ankles up there its gonna cost us all tax dollars to fly him to the nearest hospital.
 
they are doing it to test to see if there is water on the moon, it isnt like a fucking nuke, look shit up before you start spewing conspiracy and hate.
 
if the moon was to cease to exist than the oceans would go ape shit and flood most costal cities... but i would rather see some giant fireworks..,
 
This sounds awesome! What are they firing the rocket from though? Its probably in an article that I am to lazy to read right now, but is it from a satellite we launched a while back or what?

jw, its obvious nasa doesn't own the moon, so who does? and then theres no such thing as getting authourity to blow something up, because posession is only a concept, therefore what you said with authority and all that shit was very stupid
 
From my understanding it can be compared to "high seas" of international waters. From what I would assume, the only jurisdiction of space would be to whom ever flag the rocket is flying under of that makes sense.
 
and someone should write a song aboutt it, and everyone in the world should have to do the moon dance simultaneously
