Nas

i think now is the most mainstream he has ever been. His old stuff is nasty then it got kinda shitty with god son and streets deciple but the new cd is dank

Why listen to mainstream rap anyways? I think that stuff is horrible, maybe he's got skills, but regardless if you have skills or not. If it sounds like shit, it sounds like shit.

nas is NOT mainstream. at times he may gain notoriety with a couple of his singles but i wouldn't say that makes him mainstream.

^ I dont' think I would say that, but is is pretty talented. He's not too mainstream either, at least not to the extent of 50 Cent or Eminem or all that other shit. Illmatic is an amazing album.

all his diss tracks especially ether oooooo ether, and then that song he came back to shut bleek up that was tight

he definatly has way more lyrical skills that most of the people out there, the fact he's been "mainstream" lately doesnt reflect his lyrical ability at all, it reflects his marketing skills. and thers a difference between being 'mainstream" and "pop"(50 cent, for example.) mainstream rappers simply get attention from a large amount of people, pop rappers make songs specifically for radio and the general public, and usually the music put out by a pop rapper is garbage. I believe Nas can lyrically slaughter almost any artist, and to me that sets him above the general rap community.

illmatic is the best hip hop record ever. period. but i like the rest of Nas's albums too. new love for God's son.

hes not a rapper, hes a hip hop artist.

rap=talking over a drum machine (dem franchise boys)

hip hop= meaningful and well written lyrics mixed with a skilled producer and most of the time turntabler

first of all, you are getting mainstream and commercial rap confused. second, you don't know shit about hip hop at all if you think nas is any sort of a "pop" rap artist.

scratch what i said about hip hop, hip hop is a lifestyle that is influenced by the music made by hip hop artists. but to define hip hop you also have to include graffiti artist, turntabilists, break dancers, etc.

rap involves non of that, its just untalented fake gangsters with a video.

i think he is one of the best big hip hop artists around today, although i dont really like his new stuff, his old shit is amazing, i especially like the song affirmative action
