Has anyone seen this show, if so what do you think?

I thought it was a good watch but as someone who's lived in Colombia I wish they had done so much more with it.

I'll see what kind of response this thread gets before I write a little review of it, I don't want to spoil too much. It's on Netflix btw.

I really did enjoy it. Obvious unreal elements, but it was incredibly entertaining to watch at least, and if they did more similar to it I certainly would watch again. I really enjoy the way that they integrate the news highlights from the real Escobar into it as well. Really well done overall.

I just started watching it so far and it somewhat reminds me of Breaking Bad in the way that there are a bunch of characters and a whole lot of twists so I'm hyped to watch more

Really? My ball and chain is from Colombia (Bogota) and her only gripe is the guy who plays Pablo has a horrendous accent. Its an awesome re-telling of historical events mixed with fiction. Its pretty tight how they humanize Pablo while balancing it out fairly with his horrendous actions. Its insane to learn about certain events and how tight a grip he had over pretty much an entire country. The DEA agent isn't a pussy so that's a plus.

TLDR: Your opinion fucking sucks. The show is awesome.

skierman? I'm confused... before 2001 though..not adding up

Anyway, I never watched the show but it sounds like in Entourage when Vince played Pablo Escobar.

I thought it was sick and a really worth a watch. Ya there is some fictional element and dramatization but I've read that it's fairly accurate. I really cannot wait for the next season.

he's brazilian so he probably has a portugese accent.

I started watching this series on monday and I'm on the last episode. great fuckin show. kinda similar to breaking bad in a way but with less build ups and more action.

I thought it was really good, are they making more than the one season that's on netflix?

Yeah well I wish they had a gone for a more complex social/cultural expose (The Wire) or deeper character development (Breaking Bad). To me it's just another crime series that happens to take place in an interesting setting. I lived in Medellin and was excited to see the details of the those horrible events fleshed out on screen but the whole thing felt rushed and glossed over.

They should have gone into the nitty gritty details of the Colombian drug trade, and life in the city/communas pre and post Pablo. They kind of just present Pablo as a smuggler then fast forward to him being a drug lord. In The Wire you had Bubbles, Hamsterdam, the chess game with Wallace and D'Angelo - where was that crucial contextualization?

Better characters, especially the gringos. The American military and DEA characters were so brutal, they were like caricatures of cop stereotypes, the main narrator especially. They def needed a narrator to help move the story along in that many episodes but it should have been a Colombian police, not that white knight fuck boy. The only interesting characters were Pablo, Poison, Pena and Gacha.

This show should have been 3 seasons - 1 about the narcos/narcoculture, 1 from the cop perspective and their hunt, and 1 about the civil war and it's effects on Colombian society/politics/culture/day to day, etc. That last point is the one I feel is overlooked the most, because it is the civilians who suffered the most from all that shit. Fair play to them for showing real shots though.

I liked it, I didn't love it.

It was definitely the americanized story.

I also hate how during the subtitles I would get a text or something and miss major dialogue. But that's more my fault.

It aint done yet. We will see how to plays out over the next season or two if it goes that long. And you're comparing a show based on true events to two completely fictional shows- one of which went on for 5 seasons- 10-12 hour-long episodes per season. There's only so much you can fit into a show that will maybe go to 3 seasons at most with only 10 45 minute episodes and not too much room for creative changes/different story lines branching off.

Seriously though, I don't give a damn about the locals. I wanna see Pablo and the DEA blow stuff up.

one of the best shows i've seen since the first season of True Detective for sure.. subtitles get a lil annoying at times

Be ready for a fairly bilingual tv show, a lot of subtitles and boobs. Not to mention a fuck load of cocaine, which is always good. 9/10, kinda like a 1 season breaking bad irl

it's pretty good for sure, but then again it's a tv show with the cartel, coke, and lots of tits. obviously it's going to be a big hit.

this is what i thought initially like no way this is all real but then i remembered that this is at the same time as the civil war in el salvador so there was some really crazy shit happening where i can honestly see this as being pretty accurate.

deff recommend the show, wish my spanish was better so i could do other things and watch at the same time rather than having to read all the subtitles so im not lost
