What does everyone refer to unnatural spins as? I just call them switch, and call skiing backwards fakie. I used to skate a lot, and that is what skaters used. They didnt refer to skating backwards as switch. There is no frontside or backside on skis, so i cant see riding switch, but thats what lots of people call it. Oh well..... Darkside sounds pretty cool too. Idont know

I was thinking about this today...actually.

Switch on a skateboard or snowboard is just the stance most people aren't comfortable with. Frontside and backside on a snowboard or skateboard is which way they spin. And of course most people spin counter-clockwise, because it comes more naturally.

I think thats the gayest thing to have to label which way someone spun. That got me mad before this darkside, and darkslide, crap came out (on skis)

I realize that if you spin, normally, to the left, and then spun to the right that it is harder...I just dont believe its worth labeling it.

Disclaimer:

That was just my 2 cents.

in skiing its generally called switch when you hit a kicker skiing backwards, fackie dosnt really come into skiing

i call spinning unnatural either unnatural, or darkside, but i use unnatural more.

I use switch and fakie interchangeably (spelling?)

i use switch and fakie both to describe skiing backwards like frzgene, but i think fakie sounds cooler. maybe we should have another revolution lol

fakie doesnt come into skiing, but i think it should. We cant really ride switch. We are a lot mor related to skaters than snowboarders, so i think that we should use lots of their terminology.

there is no such thing as going switch on skis unless you are vinny dorion. he is the only guy allowed to use the term. everything else is just fakie.

be polite, only post ski related topics, never have fun, always wear thongs.

darkside sounds cooler. but unnatural is better

unnatural is longer to say so we should always say unnatural so people who are not into skiing will be fucked up

Switch came from in-line skating. At least that's what they used to call it in northern CA a few years ago. That's why I say switch instead of fakie (which is a skateboarding term)

Sometimes, the darkness inside becomes to painful to conceal - thus is born a dark sensuality obsessed with love and hate, sex and death: which in reality is the true essence of our pathos

In inline skating, they call an unnatural trick switch. and traveling backwards fakie.

im pretty sure if u dont ski you will know what unnatural means, even though its a longer word lol. unnatural is self explanitory where as darkside isnt.

i like unnatural better, i just dont people who dont ski will be fucked up as quebecfreestyler said

Well from where I ski, we call'em as follows;

. Fakie : riding backward

. Switch : landing in the opposite direction from the initial pop position whether it would be back or front

. Darkside : spinning in your unnatural direction. It would be spinning to the right for most.

Don't use the terminology 'unnatural' much because it's sounds lame. Darkside would be a much sicker term.

Just my .02.

I don't know where this darkside thing came from.... I always just call it unnatural. um yea, I know in like every other sport, fakie is riding backwards, and switch is unnatural. In skiing, the two terms are completely interchaingeable. yea. It seems kinda dumb though....
