My Timelapse, Critique Please

Really, very good, great choice with music and lots of creative shots. Only some minor things need to be fixed, pretty much what you mentioned- in some of the shots the lighting is inconsistent.
 
that was mad sick, song lined up. only problems were what you stated, keep lighting consistant and some shots were shaky, but it was still sick
 
my honest opinion; if you're going to make a timelapse video, then you need to make them of a scene that's inspirational or makes someone say 'wow'. Having them of traffic or another sunset can be alright, but it just makes me think "oh there's another time-lapse, cool I guess". It's just missing that awe factor that you don't normally need in other types of films to make it a good film. just my thoughts on it.
 
thats awsome almost makes me want to try it but looks like it would take way to much time for me lol..

I appreciate the honest opinion a lot, and I defiantly see where you are coming from. The only reason I dont have any really sick shots is becuz it was my first shot at timelapsing and I wanted to stay local incase I needed to go home or I was doing something wrong or stupid. So I did the film on my home town, and to be honest, there is not much to see in mahwah besides the highways, stars, nyc skyline, and the top of our local hill. Next time I plan to venture out to capture nyc. Thanks again for your say tho, much appreciated.
 
Wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't great. The song was a great choice. I really like the shot of the traffic and the small hill. And the elevators in the building shot were cool. But personally, I would speed up about 90% of your shots. Like the sun rising over the chairlift shot was cool, but double the speed. Same with the sun setting on the building shot. But keep it up! Post some more up, you have potential.
 
Pretty good man! Definitely looks like you have the basics down, which is more than I can say when it comes to time lapses.

Two things that bugged me the most:

-Do something cool with the colors! You have all these shots with tons of different colors, lots of contrast (in many), things lit up, gradients in the sky, take advantage of that! Time lapses can be a good way to really learn what makes for stunning color grading.

-Make sure your horizon is straight. I noticed quite a few shots where the horizon was crooked. I'm assuming this was on accident, since a crooked horizon can create a feeling of unease, and you probably weren't looking to create that with a time lapse edit.

Keep up the good work though!
 
Thanks for the advice, defiantly will work with color correction next time to really define colors and looks. And your absolutely right about the horizon line, to be honest, it was a bit of laziness, will work it out next time.
 
It's an easy fix too. Assuming you were shooting photos and turning them into movie clips on your computer, you were probably working with 1080p footage? That gives you a decent amount of wiggle room with which you can scale up clips and rotate them to correct the horizon.
 
I'm working with the 7D and ik if you press info, a level or horizontal plane will come up and show you if you camera is completely level
 
ah for sure. yeah on my T2i i always have the grid on my LCD so i can tell.

but i'm just saying, if you get to post and your horizons are crooked, it's an easy fix
 
not bad, but remember to turn the autofocus OFF! I forget it all the time too and it drives me crazy. Super simple thing to forget
 
Not too bad! ;) try doing some of the stars and moon at night and maybe some more clouds. and if you have the patience open up the shutter for longer and take a picture every 2-3 seconds so you get more movement! Keep it up!
 
Ah ok ur the first person to tell me this but it makes perfect sense becuz the auto focus focuses on other things. I'll try it out thanks
 
I liked it alot. Music choice went perfectly with it, plus alot of cool, creative shots. I especially liked the hotel elevators at night, that was chill, and the sunrise shot. well done
