My thought on other skiers talking to me about skiing...

I used to be all intense on skiing, and would like to talk about it all the time. Then I realized that most people dont give a shit. 3 years and 2 jobs in skiing stores later, I also don't give a shit about what trick you did last year, how big the cliff you dropped was, or have fast you were going down that chute. Pics or it didnt happen, ahaha jk but really, does anyone else get tired of this nonsense? I just really enjoy skiing, and im sure everyone else does on here but it doesnt mean that's all you have to talk about. It's just cause i've met some people like this and my roomate is like this also and i dont care AT ALL. anyone?

i hear ya

mainly this talk comes along when we've been drinking and start reminising(sp?) of last season and getting ready for the next one.

but all in all, i too could care less

I love hearing someone tell stories about skiing. I love hearing all about the stoke from someones trip, and I especially love it when people show me pictures of skiing elsewhere and share the love and stoke.

exactly my thinking....

i love hearing stories, but when they get all up themselves and start talking about themselves and not what everyone else did i just think they claimers and tune out...

meh...

i love hearing crazy adventure stories and shit like that

but when people are just like "OMG YOU SHOULDA SEEN THAT RAIL I GRINDED LOL IT WAS SO BIG" or "I WAS SKIING SO FAST I SWEAR LIKE 80 MPH", i completely tune out. if they're truley stoked on it, i get stoked too. but if they are just bragging, i hate it.

living in southern ontario, i am one of the few skiers. i want to talk about skiing all the time, but everyone around here is a non-skier and dont give a shit/understand what i say about the sport. i have learned to not talk about it unless somebody else brings it up or if i have a cool story relevant to whatever conversation is going on at the time.

Other skiers like talking about it. Thats why I come onto this website. Most other people I might have a conversation about it if they ask, maybe give them advice but I don't usually like to be overly dominant in a conversation. Half my conversations with other dudes are about how hot or how ugly the last chick that walked by was.

its cool to talk about skiing, but not to claim.  I can not stand listening to people tell me their claiming stories about what they did or who they got sponsored by

i only talk (not much of a claimer myself) about it if people want to hear it. other than that i just daydream all day at work or at school about last winter's epic days. i keep most of it to myself, people just don't understand and don't want to hear it, even if they are skiers or boarders themselves

I love hearing about stoke but generally don't like details about a particular day.

Hearing about obvious stuff like "oh man i love powder" is so redundant it shouldn't be said.

word. i hate people that claim. i enjoy telling and listening to stories, but i dont try to bullshit anyone about some things that i cant do. if they say: hey can you do a switch rodeo 9, i say, FUCK NO. and thats the end of that.

Same with me. So when I have someone to talk to, i just go nuts! No bragging, but anything else, I can't shut up, except to listen to people talk about it to me.

Skiing is my passion, my life, so why wouldn't I talk about it or want to hear about it?

word. Especially if its from out west and people talk about there epic pow runs and stuff because i live on the east coast and all i know is ice.I think Its great if you can share something so epic with people who can relate and can appreciate the awsomness of skiing as a whole.

I love skiing fresh pow. Seriously, my local hill, fucking, like, last year, got like a huge storm and my bros and I shreded the SICKEST pow.

CAN YOU BACKFLIP?

it sucks talking to people who claim crazy shit, but talking to people who are passionate about and kno what their talking about is great. i talked to a guy tonight for an hour about all the places around the world he's skied, such a fullfilling convo

This is sort of the same topic, but not really. The thing I really don't like is spin to win. I think a steezed out cork 5 true nose looks way better than a barely grabbed 12. Anyone else think this? I kinda suck at spinning anyways but still spin to win is not the way to go.

if men think about women every 2.5 seconds or whatever, i think i think about skiing every 1.5 seconds or so...

I guess im still 17 and totally stoked on life, but i hope i stay this way forever. As long as someone is willing to talk to me, im totally down...

I guess its not cool to force it on someone, but when i get with another skier that just totally loves the sport, we could talk for hours without getting bored...

yeah, im trying to not think/talk abovut skiing as much as i do, beacause first my friends always say, dude ur soo obssesed and like ,god, thats all you talk about all the time and make fun of me lol. 2nd its distracting in school 3rd. makes me inpatienct when i think about how long i have to wait till i can be on the slopes.

I do talk alot about skiing when its before or during ski season or when I feel like it but most of the summer I talk about somthin else.

When i talk about skiing to my friends tthey all say that snowboarding is so much more hardcore, only like 1 02 two of them have ever been to the snow and the one guy that I know who boardered said he was flat on his ass most of the time :)

What you have, my friend, is called passion...

Don't try to stop it, just learn to harness it to achieve your goals...

I hate it when people try to brag to me n thats why i dont do it to othere people, but i still love talking about skiing itself and everything else about it except people bragging.

me and a few of my better friends could talk about skiing all day everyday for the rest of our lives and not get bored. then a different kid comes and claims how amazing he is and such a good "trick skiier" he is then ill get annoyed.

I hope newschoolers gets closed. This site sucks, all you fockers ever do is blahh blahh blahh look at my corked 720. I dont want to hear it...

I get sick of the one trick you did and want to start doing again. Or liars who claim a bunch of shit.

especially when you know how good someone is, and what they're capable of, and they just lie their face off to you about how they did a huge switch seven blah blah. fuckin paul.. shut up!

Its Ironic that on a forum that exist so that we may talk about skiing, there is a thread about how people don't like to talk about skiing.

talking to other skiers though during the off season gets me so stoked for winter plus my rommates don't ski so when it's the only thing on my mind and all i can talk about, i like being able to talk to other skiers who can relate.

i love meeting people randomly out of a skiing context (i.e. in england) and i'll be wearing idk, an armada hoodie or an avalaan tshirt or something and they recognise it and you get into a big discussion with that person, like finding out their skiing experiences, what kind of riding they like or whatever. you can tell immediately if they're passionate about it and you normally hit it off straight away i can talk for hours coz its such a wide topic. bonus point if they're a chick ;) works with snowboarders too i guess.

Ahhaaha! Now, name this similar quote.

"First of all, backflips are so easy. Sooo easy. Just go up to the lip, pop, turn your head back like this and pretend you're a soaring eagle."
