Here Goes, My theory of how snowboarding got so popular:

When kids go to learn how to ski...the first thing they are taught is the pizza wedge, that teaching system doesnt work and the kid has absolutely no fun...but the kid sees the snowboarders sitting on the hill and even though they cant board for shit, they can still look cool with the other ones...and snowboarding is so much easyer to pic up than skiiing.....I know that one of the reasons i didnt go to snowboarding is because the 'wedge' is not the way i learned how to ski, so i always had fun skiing

...so the main thing is...Its the fucking PSIA ski school's fault that snowboarding got so popular...because the PSIA system sucks ass

the a-frame is kinda the basics of skiing, before you can effectivley parrellel turn etc.. you first must learn to brake/control yourself

I just tried snowboarding so I would know what im talking about if I wanted to rip on it. Unlike some fags on here.

i tried boardin back in like 95 when i stopped racing and wasnt into freeskiing yet. it sucked, it gets boring after like 2 days.

yeah, i tried at centennial hill in toronto. its a shitty hill, a good place to learn a shitty sport, i found it easy except when i tried carving out backside turns.

i think that snowboarding got so big is because the small few started doin it to llok cooler, then as time went on, snowboarding was the thing to do, u did it to be different. well now that everyone and there brother snowboards, its kool to be different and ski. watch skiing will blow up, and it has already started too, and then kids will snowboard to be different again

yea, some people didnt want to learn basic stuff skiing, so many started snowboarding and never learned the basics of that either. but for the most part it is easier than skiing, which is a plus to most, and for people such as parents, its considerably cheaper to send their kid snowboarding. as more and more people found snowboarding cool, the flow of followers came. rose exponentially, slow, then exploded, but now its chillin out... snowboarding may be more mainstream but more peopel ski thatn snowbaord... i just kinda though of shit. most of that didnt make sense or wasnt realivent, but oh well

^^ no! I honestly learned to snowboard to a point of naturally carving, riding switch, and landing 1's in a matter of one day. And that's not just me, it's very easy to pick up-- especially if you have skied all of your life.

first time I tried snowboarding I was carving, not hard to pick up at all.

i think the pizza thing could be kinda dangerous....if u have your legs like that and get some speed goin as a youngin, and hit a clump of snow, u could like break both your legs

i tried snowboarding for three days when i first ever got to a mountain when i was like 10. i hated it and i sucked so bad. i returend my board and rented skis(and they were straight skis i might add) i took a 5 minute ski lesson from watching the ski school guy with the little kiddies and i was on blue squares and a few black diamonds my first day on skis. i think it all depends on the person really. cuz my friend was the same way.
