My Teacher Has a Question on ski/snowboarding

So my teacher has a bunch of snowboarders in her class and can not understand why they come dressed in gangsta clothes and "bling".  She's pretty curious and extreamly confused why white rich kids would aspire to this.

if kids see pros that they look up to or just watch on tv and they know, wow that pro is amazing and cool and has lots of friends, maybe he will try to do the same thing, right? so its probably just another fad that the kid is going to grow out of or move onto another hero to copy.
