My ski graphics... feedback?

Hey NS. Here are a few mock ups of some graphics I put together. I'm hoping to one day do some freelance design for skis... My dream would be for you kids will be riding some of my art someday. But for now I'm just looking for some feedback. More to come...

Wow, I deffinetally wan't expecting such good stuff when I saw this lol. Legit stuff, I'd ride it.

That's better than most skis. The only skis that might have better graphics are any of Pollard's pro models. Keep it up though, that is soooooo killer!

I like em alot, but they seem almost too "Dark" for me.. skiing is a fun sport, not something heavy metal skull crap.. I guess thats why Ive never really liked K2 other than the Picasso PE's (?)

I think they look good but the only one I would buy is the amplid one with the faces, the others seem to dark..

damn, those are really good.

not to be a hater, but i dont really understand the whole "artsy, dark and meaningless artwork on skis". its like every company is trying to be so different from every other artwork, they are actually all being the same. I just dont get why they choose to use artwork that has no point.

sorry, but great work.

Hey man I appreciate your feedback and your opinion, but when you say you don't understand why companies choose artwork that has no point, I'm a little confused. The reason I want to make ski graphics it to make artwork on skis that has a point.

yes, they all look dope. but like someone else said, make a few more colorful ones, like the line graphics. i love how line does their art, just all color

thanks man, its great to hear you didnt get offended. I just mean that I dont understand some graphics companies put on their skis. take line skis for an example. why do the Chronics have ugly crows on them? or the new Afterbangs, they chose the Santa Cruz skate artist to draw up gross looking "monsters" on the topsheets. These just seem like random images they like to throw on skis in an effort to be unique and loud. let me know if you understand what im getting at at all.

I don't know if we see eye to eye on this one. You have to understand (which it sounds like you do) that the new afterbangs are modeled after a skate deck. So isn't it appropriate that the graphic is made my the most influential skateboard artist ever? I personally think the afterbang graphic is dope and I am amazed that line acually got JIM PHILLIPS to make the art. You have to know the history man. Check this out if you don't belive me.Honestly Jim phillips has probobly influence skiing in one way or another...seeing as though skating influenced snowboarding and snowboarding influence freeskiing. And yes they do throw on random images to make them unique and loud...thats the point.

So bassically, I'm not trying to spite you or anything but I think the better question is what would you like to see on a pair of skis?

I usually start with a drawing or painting and then take a quality picture of the images... then bring them into photoshop/ illustrator for the layout. keep in mind these are just mock ups for fun. So I'm sure that I'm not doing it exactly the same way as if I had a real job making graphics.

Thanks for all the good feedback!

wow great job, i probably like the first one and elephant one the best. I think the elephant one would look cooler if you added some more detail or color above it.

damn dude. that was really cool. i actually got something outta reading your response. props. i agree with you that Jim Phillips doing the artwork is dope. the way you explained how skating influences skiing was something ive never really noticed before. I guess its just personal pref. that i dont really care for em. And totally true, being loud and unique is the point. Apparently I just tend to like more basic designs/images.

Anyways, I think your work is sick. It seriously looks like pro stuff. I like the amplid ones the most. word

and thanks for a new eye on things

Here are a couple of ideas I put together yesterday in my sketchbook... I like the blue/gold/ white combo. I think It would pop nicely.

yeah I've talked with one of the designers with k2 a little last year, but it sounds like Schmies pretty much has it covered. My dream would be to do stuff for line or armada. But I would be stoked on just about anything at this point.

sounds like everyone is digging the elephants... I appreciate all the feedback. Here is an actual painting I did on three blank skate decks last year.

i feel the same way, except instead of focusing on the no-point aspect, im wondering why its getting so dark. i understand that artwork can be asthetically pleasing, and therefore have 'no point', however dark depressing images arent that asthetically pleasing, at least to me their not. no offense to your artwork thread starter, because it definatly takes talent and if thats your style then all the power to you, but i would rather have something really colorful and funny, or weird on my skis then have skulls and stuff. and that applys to the skis that companies are putting out, not just the ones presented here. but either way, those designes are talent whether or not im into the actual content. good job

wow, the blue/gold ones were sick

a company like Atomic, or Fischer who doesn't really have that great of art, IMO, could use a guy like you
