My situation

Hey, my names Joey Spencer. Back in January I received my first serious concussion back at my home mountain- Apex. I was required to be airlifted from the mountain to Kelowna General Hospital. For about a week I had no idea what was going on. Slowly I began to recover and about 2 months later I finished my winter off strong at Whistler BC. It was a big roadblock because the doctor told me, three serious concussions and I should stop skiing.

I moved to Whistler BC this season as I recently graduated. I live with a homie and my filmer ( Making It Productions, skistep.tumblr.com ). The season was off to a great start. I teamed up with Line skis and was rollin at a good pace. 9 days ago I was trying a front switch up 450 out and ended up doing the switch up and while spinning out I landed at 360 caught my downhill edge and fell straight onto the left side of my head. For about 5 seconds all I saw was white and my whole body vibrated. This is concussion number 2. My healing progress is going decent. I still get random headaches.

I saw a doctor yesterday and she told me to stop skiing. It was a big shock to me. I have really thought it over, and I am going home to see a specialist and my personal doctor to figure out the best thing for me. But I will ski again, maybe not tomorrow, a week, a few months, but I will come back stronger then ever. I will keep posted with my progress in my recovery. MUCH LOVE.

Joey.

was about to call you out for not wearing one...

good thing you wore it though, otherwise you could be dead already. i always wear mine

hope the recovery goes smoothly

unless you want to be partial vegetable in 20 years, I'd probably drop park, although you're taking a smart route to talk to your actual doctor.

Muuuuch vibes man

Enjoyed your vids so much. Just take your time and make sure you take the right decision

i saw joey ski at big white a few times last year (mini henrik). kids such a good skier. shame you cant ski for a while.

++++ vibes bro.

first time i hit the back of my head and second time hit the left side of my head so i dont think a mouth guard would have helped unfortunately. MUCH LOVE peeps!

May have for the back of the head, but if you wreck hard enough there really isn't much you can do. Thankfully you were wearing a helmet or you could be a vegetable right now.

Good luck man!

concussions suck. I had a major one two years ago and my life has never been the same since. I know that feeling of giving up what you love due to your personal health. I know that feeling of desiring to come back stronger than ever, but I also know the fear of having another one, and being in a worse situation than you currently are in now. Trust me, and trust the doctors, they're just looking out for your best interest. Stay strong Joey.

god i am sorry. the mouse doesnt even make it look anything like that, i was just high

vibes dude, hope you get out there again

setting a bar for that kind of stuff is honestly a joke, a person could be fucked after one concussion, its different for everyone.

fuck man.. maybe lay off the park shit.. just enjoy skiing. ... but i know how hard that is to really do.

i had a concussion and was bleeding from my ears and nose... i was fine.. but that was my one and only concussion.

wow dude good luck with everything. until you're dead, you'll always be able to ski again.

you said until death he can always keep skiing but there's other circumstances where he could be alive but not able to ski.

well yeah really serious ones but what i mean is he can still physcially ski even if a doctor says he shouldnt, if he wanted to. and a lot of people in pretty shitty situations still ski. like people with no movement in their legs. thats what i mean.
