My shitty luck...

So

Over the summer I worked to save up for two things, new pair of domains and a

seasons pass to loon. After putting in 35 hours a week all summer I had enough

for both. So I ordered a pair of 179 Domains from the house.com and the

transaction went off without a hitch. The first problem arose when I brought my

skis to a shop called Bob Skinners Ski Shop in Sunapee New Hampshire, although

this is not the closest shop, my grandfather had been doing business with them

for over 40 years. Needless to say there was a certain level of trust going

into this mount job. After having my k2s mounted with my previously used

jesters (used by me for a season) I took them up to my local hill for some

early season riding. After two days of riding flat bars on a green trail my

back right binding pulled out of the ski. Still in shock I try to figure out

how this could happen already. After looking at the part of the ski where the

binding had been mounted I noticed that out of the four holes in which the ski

had been mounted only three looked like they had screws pull out, so my obvious

next step would be look at the binding, which to no surprise had only three

screws. Next I returned to the shop that had incorrectly mounted my skis and

informed them what had happened. They tried to play it off like it somehow

wasn’t their fault but finally agreed to remount them for free. This is where I

was fucked. (Drilling a k2 ski twice automatically voids the skis warranty) So

not knowing any better I consented, thinking this was the best possible move. I

skied on these for about a week and then again my back right binding pulled. This

time I returned to the shop that had mounted them, demanding an explanation.

Since I had called before hand they had their story rehearsed, instructing me

to bring these to a k2 dealer to have them warrantied. So next I bring them to

a new shop down the road where they examined the skis and sent the information

to k2. The next day I received a phone call saying that because the skis had

been drilled twice and not heli-coiled k2 will not be able to warranty them.

Next they guy informed me that the only thing left to do would be to heli-coil

the original holes with plastic heli-coils. So left with no other option I said

go for it. I skied them with the plastic heli-coils for another two to three

weeks and yet again the back right binding pulled. This time I just brought

them to the shop at loon, where I was told that the ski was now unfixable and

should have been heli-coiled using a metal heli-coil.

So

as it now stands I’m a totally broke college kid with no way to ski and no time

to get a job until the summer. Just thought id come to ns to vent, /endrant.

I hate assholes who think they know what they're doing and then just screw you over. Fuck that shop. They clearly did not know what they were doing. I feel you man.A handful of shops have screwed me over before. Thankfully not as bad as you have been.

Sorry man.

That sucks. I had the same thing happen with a k2 ski. 3 different mounts, 3 different bindings. I was so fed up with my local ski shop i took it to a different shop. They said it was mounted too many times and I had to buy a new ski. I now own a pair of Nordicas and everything is working fine so far.

They're symmetric right, is it possible to flip that ski around and munt it backwards so the holes aren't on each other?

yeah the guys at loon talked about that but they said since the plastic heli-coils took out such a wide chunk of the ski they wouldn't be able to re-drill them and have the screws hold.

A little update, A ns member named trace has offered to send me some skis for the price of shipping. This to me speaks for what this ski community is all about, i dont know any other place that would without even being asked display such generosity.

Glad to hear you're getting hooked up so you can enjoy the season! And mad props to Trace for being so generous!

as a friend of *Dos*planker* i watched all of this happen. ill add that this story doesnt do the situation justice. literally worked everyday and could barely see his friends JUST so he could have ski's and somewhere to ski, then having that taken away by the mistakes of the "professionals" was truly a sad sight. luckily we got a couple edits together before they broke for good.

Linky to member? This guy needs some of teh karma points! Glad to hear such a good story. Some shops are just too sketch....

That blows dude. I have some old 76 walls you can have if you want pretty beat but would def get you through the season. Pm me if you want them. Hope the skis get sorted out.
