My response to all those "snowboarders have so much more fun" people

Pep in 1242. About as intense and sick a segment as has ever been in any sports movie, and guess what!? he wasn't drawing a fake mustache on his face, or jumping around in a parking lot, or wearing an airblaster or anything! That segment gets me more amped to ski than any other. So do you guys really think that showing shots of the riders screw around in a gas station mens room means they are having more fun? Even if they are (which they probably aren't) why is that so important to you? I just don't understand this whole trend here on ns. Wearing tight snowpants doesn't mean you are having more fun! Stupid and silly antics do not equal more fun on the mountain. If you really like snowboarding better, I'm sure that Ride, Burton and (Ugh) Airblaster will be happy to take your money, and I know I will be happy to stop listening to your silly rants here on the ski gabber. That's all I have to say, except that snowboarders are sick and I give them mad props but it isn't my thing so I will always like to watch skiing better, despite this mystical "fun-o-meter" that I apparently don't know how to read.

think of all that skiers can do on rails and stuff with two freely moving legs, while boarders are limited to front and back boardslides, and nose and tail presses/slides

^that is incorrect. people are pushing snowboarding just as much as we are pushing skiing.

my response is.

i have heard the same thing about anal.

I don't understand it either. I just keep on rolling, because I know that I"M haveing fun skiing, and that's all that really matters to me.

I'm a total skiing convert, I started a month and a half before the end of last season on a whim, I'd been snowboarding since I was 8. I've just had alot more fun with skiing, I'm not sure if it's learning new things but watching ski edits is just way better for me too.

It's a well documented fact that the only way to have fun is to wear airblaster and do methods, noseblocks and handplants.

Just some tips to the kiddies who may not be so experienced at having fun.. Make sure you put hours of gruelling practice into perfecting your handplants, tipstands and hand drags. Then take your newly perfected tricks to densely populated areas so people can see how much fun you're having - its not fun unless people watch!

Make sure you laugh loudly as you approach the entrance to the terrain park, then do a hand drag past the audience (make sure to drag facing towards them so they can see your 09 JFF jacket). If you're feeling game, fall over for no reason but make sure to keep that laugh loud so that people know you're having fun. Tipstand on the knuckle of the last jump for 15-20 minutes. Knees hurting? Suck it up bitch, you're having fun, duh!

If you're unfortunate enough to be stuck in the backcountry, make sure to bring a camera so that you can later show people on the internet how much fun your backcountry tipstand was.

By the way I'm not trying to rip on the aforementioned tricks or brands. I like airblaster. I like tipstands. I like handplants. I just dislike people who are so focused on their "fun" image that they aren't having fun.

Different people enjoy different things. Some people enjoy jumping, some people enjoy rails, some people enjoy groomers, fuck, some even enjoy snowblading. Do you think anybody in this sport does isn't having fun?

Just remember that the gapers, park rats and eurocarvers are all having just as much fun as the airblaster-wearing method-popping kids sitting down at the top of the Blackcomb park.

my response to YOU!

yeah bro i know what youre saying, but i think youre misinterpreting what we mean by "having fun". itsjust viewed as being more creative and "having fun WITH IT" which gets left out alot. its a term thats more closely related to just messing around than anything.

Peps segment in 1242 is not possible to compare to anything on video, ever. so its kinda unfair to judge this little movement by those standards. all its about is trying to make everything less serious like you said but by taking not being serious, seriously. yadidaholla? it gets boring when everyone does EXACTLY the same tricks over and over and over again, epecially when theres so much left to be done on skis and snowboards.

i dont hate on kids who ski pipe all day or who want to put the sickest contest run ever together. in fact more power to you, ive never been solid enough to put down a winning run in anything. but at the same time i dont expect hate from them for going out and riding whatever has snow on it and having fun with it.

the kids who hate on people who "arent having fun" are retarded and dont understand what this little faction is all about. they just wanna be the next Scott Stevens when they dont even know who Think Thank is in the first place. you guys are having fun doing what you wanna do and we wanna have fun doing what we wanna do. if your fun is G-Suts and banging hammers then rad, ski hard bro. but dont hate me for wearing tight pants and listening to Matt and Kim when i ski. it doesnt work that way.

its a very complicated situation that could be solved if people stopped hating on each other. i used to and still do wear my baggy clothes. i wear talls all the time and i love hip hop. but one day i just decided that i was getting tired of it, so i started "having fun wth it" and making my own tricks to do and skiing what and where and how i wanted to ski. THAT is what its about. people who are tired of the status quo, sometimes too serious, hella thugged out interpretive dance we call park skiing.

so, stop hate, its retarded.

hes got it down.

half of the people behind this "having fun with it" thing, dont even know what the fuck theyre talking about.

its the same thing as mini-Henriks in G-Suits on the hill and the guys that literally think they are the next Idea crew.

and dont label everyone in tight pants as "those guys".

In defense of Krongos, who i've had many a chairlift conversation about this with, I'd say he agrees with you 100%. If that's how you wanna ride, do it up, it's just that we're a little annoyed with certain kids trying to claim that we're 'not having enough fun' while we ride because of a lack of aforementioned style. I'm pretty sure that 99% of the kids on the hill are having the time of their lives most every day (or at least they should be) in their g suits, or their jeans, or rocking silly sunglasses and leg bags.

basicly it just seemed to me that some kids started to think a certain style had some sort of monopoly on fun and the rest of us were 'working' or something.

hey now, airblaster is cool.
and travis parker is having more fun. have you seen December, or April (I personally haven't seen April yet), and In Short... airblaster is cool.

as sick as pep in 1242 was...i don't get your comparison? because its a sick segment it looks like he's having fun? what?

its uses probably one of the most epic songs in history, tonnes of timelapses and big tricks.

if your trying to draw a comparison between that and thinkthank or airblaster or any of those guys...you're sorely mislead.

2 entirely different styles of filmmaking and riding.

im just gonna say one thing: hot lunch and outdoor education got me more stoked than any other pro movie

enough with the talking about having fun already, jesus christ.
if you feel the need to address the fact that youre having a good time, clearly your head isnt in the right place.
anyone who goes skiing is having fun. if they werent, they wouldnt go. its as easy as that. so quit beating a dead horse and trying to convince people that skiing is as fun as snowboarding. people do a hell of a lot of both.
if it wasnt fun, people wouldnt do it.
fuck.

Umm, that's my point, that Pep's segment is so different than those other styles but still is the sick shit. It's why I like PBP and Level 1 because they just throw down baller ass shit every year and of course they're having fun but it doesn't need to be the focus. Sickness and badass shit is what I like in my ski movies, skiing greatness.

so fuck all the people that want snowboard style movies because you dont like them? is that what your saying?

^I think he's just saying that he'd prefer enormous fives stomped both ways into powder than people lamely goofing off in a contrived effort to demonstrate how much fun they're having.

As would I. If you're having fun, it shows. No need to make a concerted effort to make sure everyone else knows. For the record, it doesn't seem to me that Think Thanks shit is contrived.

exactly, why do I need to watch people goof off? I can do that shit with my friends, I want to see something that gets me pumped to throw down some sick shit. Im down with the whole having fun thing, but I like to see some seriousness as well.

i cant think of a snowboard movie ive seen where it seems like the fun was fake.

but as someone said, everyone does it because its fun. simon wins comps because its fun. seth double back flips 2000000 foot cliffs cuz its fun. tom wallisch pretzels and afterbangs everything cuz its fun.

idk where im going with this, this thread was pointless in the first place

that doesnt not show anything, i love skiing but i have friends who do both, but choose skiing becuase they like the culture more, but on rails with a snowboard he says its a lot easier, and i would say you can do soo much more on snowboard than skis..and for all those wondering, yes i am a skier. take any trick you can do on rails with skis, you can really do it with a snowboard, then add in back sides, frontsides and all that...i dont know, thats jsut my opinion.

This thread is retarded, who the fuck even takes the time to examine how much fun it seems like some one is having compared to others that ski. I dont care snowboarding and skiing are like the same thing!ill draw fake mustaches and have goofy shit in all my segments!
