My rant on the lasies ski market.. err sort of.

I have this issue, and i think it is because my girlfriend needs NEEDS new skis. She can rip, but has become so tentative to go harder because her skis suck. So here is the deal, I know there is some girls skis out there... everyone has a few options usually. But they are all kind of the same, the line pandora is really the only thing that is fairly big, but still nice and light, flexy, and looks good. Moment has some stuff, armada, but it all seems so run of the mill. Like no thought put into it, even though they say they do.

Anyways, from a guys perspective, the girls ski market is brutal and lame, Case in point... I just saw the new Surface catalogue, and unless I am completely mistaken, 1 girls ski. 1. not 2, or 3 or 4, 1... just 1. Where is the girls symetrical ski? rockered ski? I can count on one hand the amount of girl skiers I know, 4 of 5 of them ski harder than I do by far. So why do they have to ski on something not designed for them? I guess the answer for that is "girls bodies are diffrerent they dont need symetrical, or rocker or blah blah blah!" but what if they want it? Know what I mean?

I dont remember what my main point was going to be, I got sidetracked by youtube... dammit they should shut that motherfucker down!!!!!

anyways... girls ski market= lame and small and neglected.

thank you.

Girls represent a significantly smaller market for freestyle/fat skis. Think about how many girls you see in the park or hucking big cliffs- not nearly as many girls as there are guys. Not really worth it cost wise for the ski companies.

If your woman shreds then you should get her on a 'guys' ski.

I have seen a few women on men's skis. I think that if they need rockered skis or symmetrical they should just go buy them.

I sort of agree... but she is like 5'3" and 120 pounds... whats out there doesnt work.

I think they need to do a better job, seriously.

There are plenty of fat women's skis out there. More than ever before I'd say. Who cares if Surface doesn't have one yet? They only make what, 5 different pairs of skis? So 20% of their line is women's.... No other company has that sort of % of their lineup dedicated to a women's freeride segment. It's such a small market that it just doesn't make sense... YET.

There are quite a few options that are definitely sick skis. I've checked out a lot of them for my gf as well and there are skis out there, and they're all not "run of the mill" by any means.

Oh ya, reverse cambered women's fat ski? Check it...

girls ski market = lame and small right now for sure but by no means neglected. For a smaller market a lot of companies are putting tons of effort towards women's freeride. Shit, they even got the same amount of money at X Games! and that shit wasn't even fully televised! (that I saw anyway, maybe it was) That's a pretty big step to show that companies are getting more serious about women in the sport.

Girls park and BC is a tiny market. You can't expect a company, ESPECIALLY a tiny company like surface to produce 3 different women's skis. Chances are they would lose a lot of money and have a lot of unsold product at the end of the year. And you act like a woman cant ski a mens ski. If your girl wants a decent fat and soft ski, what about a kung fuja? Soft and 95 underfoot. And I think it would be unnecessary to create a women's specific rocker, what would be different? Softer? They are already noodles.

Indeed, good point.

Plus companies like faction, doing big things for the ladies as well.

I guess Iwas just pissed off because I think the mistake is to leave it until it gets huge, and out of control.

Everyone +k this dood.

next years moment reagan, and k2 has something in their lineup this year. a lot of rockered skis are pretty much unisex because of how soft some are and how short they ski.

i ride the arw and i love them! but a womans ski si good if you need it. i could ride kid skis...in fact i have a pair! but i am 95lbs and 5'. i dont need a wicked stiff ski because i can barely flex any ski! i went with the arw b/c it has a wood core and is built like the are 5 and but is a little bit softer and lighter cuz that is what i needed! most girls skis are the same as the guy version only softer and lighter becuase girls are lighter! i dont know about fully symmetrical girls skis, but if thats what shes going for go for the invader. there is nothing wrong with riding a "guy" ski...and the invader is soft enough for a girl! i have the invader minis and i love them! also a girls center of gravity is different then a guys...thats why on non twin tip skis they have different mounting points. just something else to consider.

but i see what you are saying, the skiscould be better, but considering how long twin tips have been around, its not so bad, and it gets better every year! you also said, you can count the number of girl skiers on one hand, so can ski companies, they arnt going to invest time and money into a product there is no market for, or a very small market, as the sport grows, so will the need for quality womans twin tips and they will get better.

Im sorry but why do we even need girls skis? Theres such a small market to make different skis with "cute" graphics.. Do you really think the skis know if the 140 lbs on top of them has a penis or not?

finally!

look all im saying is... if you're going to do something, do it right. Seriously. I just dont think a shitty version of a guys ski cuts it. and enough with the Hawaiian flowers and rainbows. Its over. If 20% of the market is girls, give em 20% of the product. I know its there in some form, but I dont think it holds up.

95% of guys will (if the could) buy skis every season. I dont think girls are much different.

So if it is only a fraction, why not go all out?

I cant ride very many guys skisbecause companies don’t make them short enough for me, and theyre usually toostiff to flex and really heavy. Im 5’1, 100 lbs. I have the pandoras and theyare the best womens pow skis ive ever ridden and I tried a lot of them when I wasshopping for a pair. ive only been able to try two pairs of mens skis: theinvaders, which I own and love. And the obsetheds, which were really big on mebut I absolutely loved them, although I hatedhow heavy they were. Girls just have different needs when it comes to gear. Im mostlyjust talking about things from my perspective but I know a lot of girls thatare my size feel the same way… we need lighter, softer, shorter skis. And becausethe womens ski market isn’t that big, companies don’t want to take the effortto do all that. Although I must say, the womens ski market is growing and imloving it.
hope i didnt leave anything out...

so... correct me if im wrong, but why the FUCK do girls need skis specifically for them? I'm a little shy of 150 lbs and I ride 181 Dynastar TM's stiff as fuck. I'm sure a 120 lb girl could ride any ski that a guy can ride, there really is no difference, there fuckin skis.

TMs stiff as fuck? lol, its actually pretty soft, and skis like a medium flex ski cause of the tiered construction, giving it a stiff underfoot and soft tips.

The roxy broomstix or "roxy team pro" twin tips are epic. They are a little fatter than usual park skis but it makes the take offs and landings super mellow. They also HAVE A ROCKERED REVERSE CAMBER ski next year, the Mumbo Jumbo's. Which were mentioned above. Roxy is a women's ski company and as a female athlete i wouldn't ski on a product i didn't trust and love. I think you should take her to some demo event's and let her test some skis out. Or YOU even go test out women's skis .........there's some good shit out there.

if i was bigger i would definitely ride guys skis. but im not, which is why i need a womens ski, or a small/flexy mens ski. im 100 lbs, if youre 150 and think a ski is stiff, then for me it would be like a rock.

Pretty sure I just solved your problem for you.

dude look at the trouble maker limited, that ski is fuckin stiff. I have armadas too and can butter into frontflips with those things, with the TM I would have no luck.

and as for girls weighing less than 120, kids skis? ski companies are just gonna rip you off with the girls ski, it's going to be like the exact same performance as either a guys ski or a kids ski.

yes! im 5' and i find it every hard to find skies that are my size...that arnt kid skis. even some girls skis dont come in my size! i have the arw from the only year they made a 151. they haven't made it since. but i think your right the market is growing and getting better!

i see what you are saying...but if you look at some compnaies 20% of their skis are womens

armada makes 13 skis, 3 are girls thats 23%

line makes 17 skis, 4 are girls thats 23%

salomon makes 13 skis, 4 are girls thats 30%

thats just a few....but i get what you are saying that it should not just be a shitty version of a guys skis, but just cuz a ski is softer and lighter does not make it shitty. it makes it better for women. and not all the skis have stupid flowers on them, my arw have a shirtless guy on them!!! i love it!! dont get me wrong i think that the girls side of the industry needs to improve...but also think it is, just slowly....with more pro girls on teams they will be able to put more imput into how the skis are made and improved!!!

maybe stiff because of the titanium underfoot?

i am the same size as you and my black and green tms are pretty soft.

you must not know how to ski

boom,

roasted.

If these girls you speak of are skiing harder than men, why arent they on men's skis? Most womens skis are softer and lighter, for smaller girls/people basically. If they are big enough though, why not ride a ski like the hellbent? Do they really need a womens version with just a fufu topsheet called the fairybent? If every company produced equal womens skis they would have wayyyy to many models. If you are a women and need a bigger ski, you just buy a bigger (mens) ski, even if it doesnt say womens on it. Thats just my 2 cents!

Well the girls skis already don't sell out every year. You can get ARW's new from this year for around $100 on ebay if you look. Rockered skis would sit on shelves.

Im not talking about a full blown half and half ski wall here.

in core shops, where you might see more wider female specific skis those would probably get sold. I know it is a small percentage, but so is the sale of guys rockered skis. compared to the rest of the market. And I do think a dumbed down version of a guys ski for the same price is not good enough. Same flex points and side cut is stupid, women are built differently, and comapnies are just going through the motions instead of creating a market.
