My proposal to save NSG.

As we all can agree Non-Ski gabber has fizzled into a boring forum. I've only been a member for a relatively short period of time and after reading back on old threads that were well before my NS days I suggest to you Bishop and all the other mods that:

1. To prevent NSG from turning into my Facebook newsfeed we implement a BAN on any news articles and shitty links that show us what some fucking cat did or who did a few backflips on a bike.

In a few words: Moderate shit posting that involves links.



2. Loosen the moderation of shit on the forum so that it promotes the creation of legendary posts that may seem at times a little inappropriate and worthy of moderation.

In a few words: Let us post stupid shit without it getting deleted.

3. The more extreme of my ideas. When you log into newschoolers or enter the site automatically direct the traffic to NSG. Therefore forcing people to view this thread and possibly create more posts.

In a few words: force the world to see NSG.

I would love to hear more suggestions on how we can, as a community, develop into a more betterer place.
 
You want more moderation but loose moderation?

As someone who doesn't post much in Ski gabber but still peruses it now and again, #3 is stupid. NS is not NSG it is a Skiing website that has a great community, not a forum where one section is basically its own website.

Exactly! Newschoolers and skiing as a whole cannot grow without the growth of the Non-skiing part of the community.

I will promise you, this is not happening. Literally the absolute last thing we want for this site is to drive all potential skiing-related traffic straight into NSG. More than anything, NSG is tolerated as a place to blow off some steam than a place we're extremely concerned about preserving.

That being said - every NSer's opinion is important to us, and if we can work on some reforms that enough people in the community are interested in - we can implement them to see what happens.

#1 I've never understood why people used NSG for that - though I guess enough people do (maybe did?) spend enough time on the site they just skipped using Reddit. I defer to the masses on opinions with this topic.

#2 - This one is hugely cyclical. About every 2 or 3 years we go through the clamp down on NSG, many people are happy, some NSGers are unhappy. They complain that the place is going to shit, we loosen up the moderation, then everyone else complains the entire site is going to shit. I've literally in my 11 year tenure at NS probably made the call to let NSG run wild 3 or so times. Every time it has led to a really happy small group of people that just want to watch the world burn, and most of the community unhappy.

we all think similarly to an extent otherwise we wouldnt all ski/shred. I think shredders have a certain perspective on life and because of that we want to discuss current events with each other, rather than some random on Reddit. I post here because it still holds a sense of community and a common way of thinking both negative and positive. Ive found some of my threads to be incredibly constructive to my understanding of many subjects and pov's and I credit that to the type of people that ski in general.

I come here for constructive controversy and also because this was the first forum i ever made a post on and i dont feel the need to try a different product.
 
how about you post quality stuff (links and articles welcome, it creates discussion) and people will come

people will see shit stuff doesn't get attention and go find/create their own quality threads

This is the problem. If you consider this a good troll, in my mind that is what is wrong with NSG. There was no part of that which was even remotely funny.

Sorry Bishop I know it wasn't supposed to be funny, but I laughed at that one part because it is so true.

Also, there is no "saving NSG". Well not saving NSG in the way other people propose the idea.

The idea of "Let's save one of the least moderated parts of NS by moderating it less than it already was." never works out...

Also over moderating it wont be good either. I believe NSG was originally placed here because there wasn't places like Reddit or 4Chan when NS was created. It needs to be here and correct me if I'm wrong, but they just want it to be a little less like 4chan and reddit in the way of peoples attitudes. I remember when NS Respect used to be solely based off of how long you were on the site for. Meaning if you were only here for a little while no one even wanted to talk to you or you were basically considered a cancer on the flow of the site. Now it's those new users that we need. We should make new users feel welcome, but not allow them to harass anyone either.

I feel like Newschoolers NSG has always tried to find the perfect balance between not over modding and not under modding. Sometimes it gets out of hand, but that's just what happens when some try and see how far they can go before they get banned. It will always be a bit of a shit show, but it's our shit show. :) One thing to try and keep in mind is that the Mods are just a non-biased person anyone can feel comfortable talking too and if they decide to ban you chances are you probably needed to be banned to balance things out. sometimes I feel like they ban people because things get too heated and they are just trying to help prevent things from getting worse.

Sorry for the bit of a rant. Just see so many of these save NSG threads and lately I don't see anything that needs to be saved. You can't fix what isn't broken.. lol
 
Once 4chan and reddit became a thing NSG developed terminal cancer and it is either going to continue on life support as a shell of its former self or someone will pull the plug. This used to be a forum that had loyal members that produced original content unique to NS. Its dying for the same good reason facebook is eventually going to die because people quit trying and just regurgitate the same shit that the last guy vomited onto his wall and the cycle of boringness continues.

That being said NS content, which is 100 times more important is still badass and I'm happy about it.

on my third cocktail it occurred to me that there's some new alerts feature...definitely a contributor to any downfall of NSG...you used to be forced to read other peoples' shitty posts while hunting for the prized quote replies...the world has gotten so lazy.

Finally our lord and savior is here to redeem NSG. We will follow these three commandants and enforce them under pain of death. Or you can be nailed to a cross. The choice is yours.

Now this is a concept I can get behind.

All I want is it to be our shitshow. I feel like you're right in that it used to be "n00bz can GTFO" - but that isn't a reality we can have anymore. However, the seasoned vets of NSG should work together to set an ethos that we can all get behind.

I'm all for completely fucking reckless shit - don't get me wrong. Our goal behind NS (especially as the demo has aged) is to party our fucking brains out, shred super hard and overall be a bunch of irresponsible miscreants.

However - nothing makes my soul cringe like the idea of carrying this out with full douchebaggery in tow. I want us to be the most elegent fuckheads on the block. That "Wow that dude is a fucking irresponsible animal... but boy is he funny and/or smart."

Reckless, yet highly intelligent and entertaining I can 100% get behind. I think we can establish this, and I think everyone wants it to be this way. If you want to troll the fuck out of the site - then look to lilhorsey as an influence. Not just some fucking n00b that posts some dumb shit thread talking about dicks.

Start working on what the ethos of NSG should be, and we can tweak the rules to fit. Nobody wants utter stupidity, but nobody wants total control. There is a balance, and as a community we can find it.

almost a full decade of perpetuated ignance hmmmm?( http://www.livescience.com/528-scientists-finally-figure-bees-fly.html ) not to mention our laws of aviation are more based on what we've learned from observing nature and not nature learning from us. fish do not swim, they are swum. birds do not fly, they are flown.

on a side note, i know it is summer and all, but what is with the sudden influx of these wretched aliases? they are not even remotely tasteful trolls and are no way contributing to "the creation of legendary posts that may seem at times a little inappropriate". where is a the banhammer when you need it? just my two cents..
